Concrete Batching Plants Compiled by Torah Onyango, Yvonne Andiva and Ann Kagumu Project completion times are getting ever shorter and just as in every aspect of the construction project, greater expectations are being placed on the need for faster production of high quality concrete. To meet this challenge today’s batching plants offer greater consistency in the mix of ingredients thus assuring a higher quality of concrete in this high takes environment. The plants are a complexity of mechanical parts ranging from cement batchers, aggregate batchers, conveyors, radial stackers, aggregate bins, cement bins, heaters, chillers, cement silos, batch plant control and dust collectors. With

such a wide array of equipment, it follows then that in addition to consistency the need to select machinery that has lower maintenance costs and downtime is paramount. At the centre of the batching plant is the mixer and here too there are choices each of which has various advantages. In order to get the best of the lot, one has to turn to the experts who in most cases offer complete turnkey batch plant installations from site layout and design, foundations and electrical wiring to mechanical expertise, complete enclosures and landscaping. This single sourcing takes the headache and heartache out of installing an efficient productive and cost effective batching plant.
