Mondo Construction Company Inc., a family-owned business based in Monroe, Conn., has been in the construction industry for three generations.

Founded by James Paul Mondo, the company initially focused on asphalt but later evolved under the leadership of his son, Bruce Mondo Sr., who expanded operations to include septic work and foundation projects. Today, under the direction of Bruce Mondo Jr., Mondo Construction has transitioned into a prominent utility contractor for several of the premier utility providers in the region.

“Our focus on utility work has allowed us to carve out a niche in the industry,” said Bruce Mondo Jr., President of Mondo Construction. “We handle everything from underground conduit installations to infrastructure support for major utilities. Our clients know they can count on us for dependable, efficient service that meets their specific needs.”

A hallmark of Mondo Construction is its employee retention. Many of its 15 team members have stayed with the company for decades, such as its mechanic, Mike Marshall. Mondo Construction’s dedicated and experienced workforce help the business maintain high standards of quality.

“Hard work, honesty and our employees are key to our success,” emphasized Bruce Mondo Jr. “We have a lot of long-term employees who make things work around here.”

With a concrete reputation and a team of seasoned professionals, Mondo Construction handles a range of jobs across Connecticut.

“We tackle both long-term projects that last over a year and smaller jobs that we can complete in just a few days,” Mondo Jr. shared. “This variety keeps our team engaged and ensures we’re always learning and adapting. It also makes us responsive to different types of client needs.”

Upgrading to Cemen Tech

Among Mondo Construction’s fleet of equipment is a Cemen Tech C60 volumetric concrete mixer, which was purchased through C.N. Wood and has proven invaluable for utility work.

“We had been operating an older competitive-brand machine since 2000, but after more than 20 years, we knew it was time for an upgrade,” commented Mondo Jr. “After researching our options, we went with Cemen Tech, and it’s been a fantastic addition. The truck’s capabilities have really enhanced our work efficiency.”

The C60’s versatility and ability to control concrete quantities on-site have been especially beneficial, as Mondo Construction’s utility work often requires flexibility with materials.

“Utility work is unpredictable,” stated Mondo Jr. “You can plan to use a certain

amount of concrete, but sometimes things change, and you need less or more. The Cemen Tech truck allows us to adjust on the spot, which reduces waste and saves money.”

With the C60, Mondo Construction can also easily adjust to different project specifications.

“Since the purchase of this vehicle, we’ve been able to do colored concrete, which has expanded our customer base for deliveries,” noted Mondo Jr.

In addition to the flexibility, the C60’s technology and ease of use have significantly improved operations for Mondo Construction.

“The truck’s push-button controls are simple to operate once calibrated,” explained Mondo Jr. “This system minimizes operator error and ensures consistent quality in our mixes, which is crucial for our projects. The learning curve for new operators is also much easier to manage.”

Exceptional customer support

The support from C.N. Wood, especially Cemen Tech Product Specialist Craig Schoen, has also been instrumental in keeping Mondo Construction’s operations running smoothly.

“Craig has been a real pleasure to work with,” Mondo Jr. shared. “Whenever we’ve had questions or issues, he’s responded quickly and helped us resolve problems right away. He’s been there every step.”
