DEFENCE CONTRACTS COVER far more than weapons, aircraft and the like. Procurement teams at the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) buy a wide variety of products and services ranging from clothing to satellite communication systems, from workforce provision to construction of buildings. The MoD currently spends approximately £19.6bn (US$26.45bn) with third parties on a diverse range of products and services. This amounts to 40-45% of total government spend with third parties, with the UK government one of only five NATO member states to meet the alliance’s goal of spending 2% of GDP on defence annually.
