ASV Holdings Inc., a manufacturer of all-purpose and all-season compact track loaders and skid steers, offers smooth turf tracks for minimized damage to soft, delicate surfaces.

With a combination of greater ground surface area and the benefits of ASV’s Posi-Track undercarriage, the turf tracks can achieve equal or better traction than treaded tracks on dry surfaces. ASV turf tracks can be trusted to minimize damage to topsoil and root systems, allowing for faster job completion in landscape, hardscape and golf course applications, according to the manufacturer.

“People are often surprised by how well our turf tracks perform,” said Buck Storlie, product manager of the ASV brand. “We have some landscapers who put them on for a single job and then never take them off because of the exceptional performance, especially in dry ground conditions.

“In a field test, we completed 30 counter rotations with an ASV machine with turf tracks and a similar model from another manufacturer with treaded tracks. The turf tracks left no damage while the other model dug a rut 2-3 inches deep into the topsoil.”

ASV’s distinctive green turf tracks have a completely smooth design and are manufactured from a specialized blend that resists cracking, provides traction and maximizes overall life. The rubber tracks eliminate rusting and corrosion because they contain no steel cords. Additionally, durability is maximized through seven layers of embedded puncture, cut and stretch-resistant material, the manufacturer said.

These turf tracks are available

for the RT-25, RT-40, RT-50, RT65 and VT-70 High-Output models.

ASV turf tracks amplify the effects of ASV’s Posi-Track undercarriage. Posi-Track features include flexible tracks, a large number of ground contact points and an open-rail undercarriage that contribute to longer component wear life, even ground distribution, more track on the ground and a virtually eliminated risk of derailment. Turf tracks take that to the next level with the elimination of treads, providing maximum ground contact and achieving traction on dry surfaces comparable to or better than machines with treads, the manufacturer said.

ASV turf tracks are backed by the company’s 2-year/2,000-hour warranty, which covers tracks for the entire period and includes a noderailment guarantee on new machines.

Komatsu, Cummins to Develop Zero Emissions Mining Trucks

Komatsu, a global provider of equipment and services for the construction and mining industries and Cummins, a global power leader, have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the development of zeroemissions haulage equipment.

Building on a legacy of diesel engine partnership across a wide variety of mining and construction equipment, Cummins and Komatsu will initially focus on zero emissions power technologies including hydrogen fuel cell solutions for large mining haul truck applications.

In August 2021, Komatsu announced its power agnostic truck concept for a haulage vehicle that can run on a variety of power sources, including diesel electric, trolley, battery power and hydrogen fuel cells. Working with Cummins is complementary to Komatsu’s development of the power agnostic truck.

“Komatsu’s deep expertise in mining and equipment design and integration paired with our advanced power technologies including hydrogen fuel cells will accelerate decarbonization of mining equipment,” said Amy Davis, vice president and president of new power at Cummins. “The mining industry has great potential to lead in adopting renewable solutions.”

As a leading independent power provider in the mining segment, Cummins provides unique application understanding that is critical to introducing reliable, quality products that can withstand the harshest environments. Cummins has a broad portfolio of batteries, fuel cell systems and electrolyzers (for generating hydrogen), that are key building blocks for decarbonization. Together, the two companies have a long history in the global mining market and strong technical capabilities necessary to develop these new solutions.

“Cummins has been a long-term partner of Komatsu and has been investing in the key technologies required to support the energy transition in mining,” said Masayuki Moriyama, president of Komatsu’s Mining Business Division.

“These are critical technologies for helping mining customers reduce carbon emissions and accelerate carbon neutrality. Building on our partnership with Cummins, we are working to accelerate sustainable solutions for our customers.”

As a company, Komatsu is committed to minimizing environmental impact through its business, targeting a 50 percent reduction in CO2 emissions from use of its products and production of its equipment by 2030 (compared to 2010 levels) and a challenge target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Komatsu has worked to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for customers through innovative product development for decades in many areas including electric diesel dump trucks, hybrid excavators, electric power excavators, regenerative energy storage capabilities and fuel saver programs.

Komatsu also announced in 2021 the creation of its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) alliance with customers to actively collaborate on product planning, development, testing and deployment of the next generation of zero-emission mining equipment and infrastructure. The alliance’s initial target is advancing Komatsu’s poweragnostic truck concept, with a goal of commercial offering in 2030.

The collaboration with Cummins is part of Komatsu’s efforts to provide zero emissions solutions for its global customers. Moving forward, Komatsu intends to explore further possibilities in zero emissions mining haul truck development.

JLG Industries Inc. announced updates to the JLG Augmented Reality (AR) app, giving the digital tool a facelift and expanding its capabilities to be even more useful to users on a day-to-day basis.

The next-generation upgrades include an all-new interface and experience, new content, cloud-based and offline use, expanded machine inspections functionality and a new “Fleet” feature.

“This new, expanded version of the JLG AR app not only has a more modern look and feel, but it also operates more effectively and efficiently,” said Ara Eckel, director of product management for connected solutions, JLG.

“Taking a machine-first approach, we have evolved this tool with very targeted enhancements and additional features that will improve users’ productivity. Its’ customer-centric design makes the app easier to navigate and more quickly connects our customers to the information they are looking for.”

The JLG AR app continues to provide five important functions that increase safety, productivity and efficiency on job sites: 1) Machine Visualization, 2) Accessory Visualization, 3) Operation Guidance, 4) Decal Viewer and 5) Inspection Assistant.

Upgrades to the app include several performance-enhancing capabilities to these functions, such as a refreshed mobile application interface and experience that starts at the machine level, allowing users to select a product and go directly into its content module from either the easy-to-use menu guide or through the app’s improved search functionality.

New machines and content also have been added to the equipment modules offering users today more than 60 models to view and manipulate in 3-D.

Content is now cloud-based, rather than native, to reduce the application’s size from 1.3 GB to 227 MB and enhance accessibility to new and updated content. And, the inspection assistance functionality has expanded to cover annual machine inspections, daily machine inspections and predelivery inspections.

The new “Fleet” feature helps JLG customers optimize their fleet management right from the app. Users can now add and store multiple assets for easy tracking by serial number/asset ID. And, users can save data on machines and access it instantly, regardless of connectivity.

“Using the JLG AR app, users can get on-demand, digital access to information specific to a machine without ever leaving the job site,” said Eckel.

Examples of this are: • Project managers using the app’s machine visualization can make sure the equipment they’re ordering will fit in their workspace and reach the required areas without looking up dimensions in a manual or online. • Rental companies using the app’s accessory visualization can be confident that they’re ordering the right accessories to fit the models they carry without referencing a parts manual to verify fit. • Before machine use, operators using the app’s operation guidance can see an overlay of a machine’s control panel with explanations of control functions. And, using the decal viewer, operators can scan decals and read them in their native language. • Technicians using their phones can walk through the inspection assistant to ensure they are following proper protocols and efficiently documenting every step. “There are a lot of added benefits and value for users in the updated JLG AR app,” said Eckel, “and the best part is that it is 100-percent free to download and does not require a login to use [some limitations may apply in select global markets].” The new JLG Augmented Reality app is now live in the Apple App Store and available for download. Current app users can easily update to the new version from the same download. The upgraded app will soon be available for download in the Google Play Store.
