Mining operations are impacted by declining head grades. More material needs to be moved from greater depths to maintain concentrated production levels. This affects productivity and energy consumption, which directly correlates to the mine’s profitability and sustainability.
To better meet these challenges, Metso Outotec launched in-pit crush and convey (IPCC) solutions. The integrated solutions consist of crushing, conveying and stacking equipment combined with IPCC planning and lifecycle services. The offering has been designed to ensure the highest productivity, energy efficiency and maintainability.
“With our team, technology and services, we can combine and provide the industry’s strongest building blocks to deliver successful inpit crush and convey operations,” said Leif Berndt, director, IPCC of Metso Outotec. “We are excited to launch our solutions that cater in an exceptional way to our customers’ operational and sustainability targets.”
Metso Outotec’s IPCC Offering
The experience-driven IPCC planning services allow Metso Outotec to support customers with pre-defined study work packages that are in line with common study phases used throughout the industry. The team uses an integrated methodology to determine the optimal pit shape and mine schedule in alignment with system configurations, that utilize advanced engineering tools to increase the speed of project definition and certainty of outcome.
The key technology highlight of the IPCC solution is the Foresight semi-mobile primary gyratory (SMPG) station, which features the Superior MKIII crusher and SmartStation
for optimal processing, allowing material size control and reduced wear, downtime and plant height. The IPCC solutions are part of the company’s Planet Positive portfolio with their improved energy efficiency. Services are a key part and a proven piece of the Metso Outotec IPCC solutions. Life Cycle Services (LCS) for operational support are available. Connected analytics allows equipment to be better managed by staying connected at all times and by reducing unplanned downtime. The IPCC offering also includes offsite and onsite assembly options. Key benefits of Metso Outotec in-pit Metso Outotec launched in-pit crush and convey (IPCC) solutions. crushing and conveying technology include: • Optimal processing with patented SmartStation; • Up to 30 percent higher capacity on the same crusher size and 70 percent reduced downtime with Superior MKIII Primary Gyratory technology; • Up to 30 percent power savings with Energy Savings Idlers (ESI); and • Better maintainability through improved crusher access and plant area isolation. New Managing Director Takes Rubble Master to Next Level

for others.”
Larger models, including the RM 100GO! and RM 120X “are more appropriate for the larger producers,” McAdam said.
Not Standing Pat
In addition to the acquisition of Maximus and its renewed commitment to the U.S. market, the company is actively involved in the research and development necessary to take the product line to the next level.
Current plans include offering both hybrid and full-electric models in all of its crusher and screener sizes.
Advancements in technology are being aimed not just at efficiency, according to René Wagner, a longtime Rubble Master marketing manager.
Rubble Master now offers RM XSMART, a telemetry and fleet management system that Wagner said contractors “want and need.”
“RM XSMART represents a new era in the interaction between humans and machines,” he said, “It brings clarity and enables owners and operators to make better decisions that lead to more profits. Features include integrated belt scales to track and document output, GPS tracking, fuel consumption tracking, fluid level monitoring, and more.”
Bigger Isn’t Always Better
Rubble Master remains relatively small when compared to many of the companies with whom they compete for market share. That’s a good thing, according to McAdam.
“We are privately owned,” he said. “If we need to do something, make a change, it’s not a committee project. We can be very reactive. That’s where our dealers are seeing an advantage already. “We listen to both our dealers and the end user and react quickly,” he added. “For example, we learned from listening that the time involved in changing the screen media is a big deal to the contractor. We immediately began to work on Jackson McAdam said, “the RM 70GO! and RM 90GO! are 53,000-lb. and bringing a design to market that will cut down on64,000-lb. machines. They are perfect for the contract crushing market.” that time frame.” Rubble Master’s size also allows for a different level of customer care, McAdam said. “Being a Rubble Master customer is not a buy and forget experience,” he said. “It is a partnership, and it requires that we’ll be there for our customers. Machines break down, but what happens next is what matters.” While Rubble Master’s North American market share does not approach the number it enjoys in Europe, things are heading in the right direction, according to McAdam. After enduring COVID-19-related challenges in 2020, he said the first three quarters of 2021 have been the best in its North American history. “COVID actually allowed us the necessary timeframe to create a strategy for growth. We have begun to execute this strategy and have the foundation in place to build on for the next 20 years.” CEG
