Ohatchee High School will hold commencement exercises for 61 seniors at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Roy C. Owens Stadium. Valedictorian is McKenna Parker Hood. She if the daughter of Jay and Julie Hood of Ohatchee and the granddaughter of Gary and Myra Copeland of Rainbow City, Ison HOOD Parker of Southside, Jerry Hood of Robertsdale and Charlotte Hood of Gulf Shores. Hood was a member of the Principal’s Club, Senior Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Calhoun County Math Team, Future Business Leaders of America (chapter secretary), Key Club (chapter vice president) and Drama Club (vice president). She was State Winner, Parliamentary Procedures (2007 and 2009), second place winner in the Community Service Project (2008), and was a Youth Leadership Calhoun County graduate. She plans to attend the University of Montevallo on an Montevallo Ambassador Program Scholarship and study business management. Salutatorian is Caitlin Haynes. She is the daughter of Bruce and Tammy Haynes of Ohatchee and the granddaughter of Wallace and Polly Haynes of Ohatchee and Venson and Marie Houston of Anniston. C. HAYNES Haynes was first-place winner in the State Parliamentary Procedure contest (2007, 2008 and 2009), was a member of the Principal’s Club, Future Business Leaders of America, yearbook staff, Family, Career
and Community Leaders of America, varsity cheerleading squad, was selected Most Likely to Succeed in Senior High Who’s Who, received the Team Leadership Award for cheerleading, DAR Good Citizen Award, had the highest History and Chemistry grade point averages, was a volunteer for Special Olympics, the Salvation Army and United Cerebral Palsy. She plans to attend Auburn University and pursue a B.S. in Human Development/ Family Studies and has received Auburn’s Dudley University Scholarship, the AU Board of Trustees Scholarship, the Auburn Achievement Scholarship and the Elk’s Lodge Scholarship. After graduation, she plans to work abroad in the mission field, helping to raise orphan awareness around the globe. Historian is Mary Elizabeth Haynes. She is the daughter of Bruce and Tammy Haynes of Ohatchee and the granddaughter of Venson and Marie Houston of Anniston and Wallace and Polly Haynes of Ohatchee. Haynes was Junior Student Marshall, was First Place FBLA State Parliamentary Procedures winner (2008 and 2009), a member of the Principal’s Club, chosen Best All M. HAYNES Around in Senior High Who’s Who, had the highest Spanish average, received the Biology Award, was a member of Future Business Leaders of America, FCCLA, the yearbook staff, a volunteer for Special Olympics and United Cerebral Palsy, was a student tutor and a varsity cheerleader. She plans to attend Auburn University on a Dudley University Scholarship, Leadership Scholarship, Trustee Scholarship and an Elks Foundation Scholarship and
pursue a BS degree in Public Relations. She plans to work for an Adoption Grant and Awareness organization, bringing to light the dire need for adoption.
