sand rock School No. of graduates: 66 Valedictorian: Megan Battles Salutatorian: Carrie Robertson Historian: Matthew A. Cole Sand Rock School will have commencement exercises for 66 seniors at 7 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium. Baccalaureate services will be at 5 p.m. today in the gymnasium and will be hosted by Sand Rock Methodist Church. Valedictorian is Megan Battles. She is the daughter of Phil and Angla Battles and the granddaughter of James and Linda Dorsett and Virgil and Betty Adcock. Battles will graduate with an advance battles academic diploma with a 4.418 grade point average. She was a member of the Beta Club, FCCLA, Math and Science Club, and the Science Olympia Team. She played volleyball and runs track. Last year, she earned third place in pole vaulting at the state meet and was also able to compete in two other events at state. She has been very successful in volleyball, making it to the final four for three years in a row. She has received the Woodmen of the World History Award and the Academic Excellence Award. She and a teammate received second place in an event at the Regional Science Olympiad competition in Tuscaloosa. She plans to attend Jacksonville State University. Salutatorian is Carrie Robertson. She is the daughter of Ladonna and Randy Kasinger and Ronda and Keith Robertson and the granddaughter of Betty and Donald Kelley and Pat and Keith robertson Robertson. Robertson will graduate with an advanced academic diploma with a 4.37 grade point average. She was a member of the Beta Club, FCCLA, Math and Science Club, and the Science Olympiad Team. She played volleyball, basketball and softball. Her volleyball team has made it to the Final Four for the past three years and her softball team made it to Regional Tournament last year. She received the Academic Excellence Award every year while in high school, and has received the All-County Award in volleyball for the past two years and All-County and AllArea for softball last year. She plans to attend Jack-
sonville State University and pursue a career in medicine. Matthew A. Cole is graduating third in his class with a 4.385 grade point average. He is the son of Tracy and Mary Cole of Sand Rock. Cole is a member of Centre First United Methodist cole Church, has played varsity football for four years and was selected to the All-County and All-Region teams, and was selected as an All-State Honorable Mention in 2009. He played varsity basketball for two years and has been a state qualifier on the track and field team. He was a member of the Beta Club, Math and Science Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He was vice president of the Senior Class, was chosen “Class Favorite,” was secretary of SGA and second vice president of FFA. He attended the University of Alabama this past summer as Sand Rock’s Boys State representative. He plans to attend Samford University or Gadsden State Community College to pursue a career in pharmacy.

He is the son of Delpher Finley of Birmingham.
