clay county High School No. of graduates: 66 Valedictorian: Misty Ann Hanson Salutatorian: Chelsea Nicole McCollum Historian: Chloe’ Paige Worth Clay County High School will hold commencement exercises for 66 seniors at 7 p.m. Friday at Horn-White Stadium. Baccalaureate services will be at 6 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Ashland. The Rev. A.L. Courtney will speak. Valedictorian is Misty Ann Hanson. She is the daughter of Howard Smith and Martha Hanson of Ashland. Hanson was a member of Who’s Who, the hanson A/B Honor Roll, a participant in the Auburn Leadership Conference, Southern Union State Community College Math Tournament, Senior Beta Club, Math Team and Big Buddies. She plans to attend Southern Union State Community College on a Presidential Academic Scholarship and pursue a career as an archaeologist. Salutatorian is Chelsea Nicole McCollum. She is the daughter of Shannon and Brad Robertson and Keith and Gwen McCollum, all of Ashland, and the mccollum granddaughter of Felton and Judy McCollum of Ashland, Brenda Koch of Ashland and Joe Koch of Lineville. McCollum was an Auburn Leadership Conference participant, ranked 15th in the statewide Math Tournament, was an All-American Scholar, a member of the National Honor Roll, Senior Beta Club, Math Team, Future Teachers of America, Big Buddies, Athletic Club, Students Again Destructive Decisions, was captain of the cheerleading squad and has been a cheerleader for six years. She plans to attend Southern Union State Community College on a Presidential Academic Scholarship and then transfer to Auburn University to pursue a career in pharmacy. Historian is Chloe’ Paige Worthy. She is the daughter of Tim and Coline Worthy of Ashland and the granddaughter of Barby and Nell Miller worthy and Era F.

She plans to attend Southern Union State Community College in Opelika on a Leadership Scholarship and later transfer to Auburn University.

Owens Field. Valedictorian is Kevin Robert Parnell. He is the son of Kyle and Sandra Parnell of Ohatchee and the grandson of Mary Davis of Piedmont. Parnell was selected “Top Teen” by The Anniston Star, placed first in the state Parliamentary Procedure PARNELL (Future Business Leaders of America) competition, received the Anniston Elks Lodge “Most Valuable Student” award, and the Cadillac Award (awarded for all A’s and perfect attendance), was a member of the A Honor Roll, has received the Principal’s Award since elementary school, was president of Future Business Leaders of America, class president, played varsity football, was a member of the Scholars Bowl, Math Team, and the band. He plans to attend Auburn University on a Leadership Scholarship, “Most Valuable Student” Scholarship from the Anniston Elks Lodge, the Energen Scholarship from Alagasco, and the F.B.L.A. Scholarship, major in Anatomical Sciences and pursue a degree in pre-medicine. After Auburn University, he plans to attend medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and pursue a career as an infectious disease specialist with a sub-specialty in cardiology. She is the daughter of Leslie Burgess of Anniston and Gary Avery of Birmingham and the granddaughter of Bob and Stella Hendon of Oxford. Avery was a participant in the 2009 Alabama’s Governor’s School, 2008 People to People Student Ambassador, Alabama State Track Meet participant (grades 8-12), a member of the Alabama State Choir and qualifier for AVERY partial scholarship to UAB, was president of the Sr. Beta Club, a member of the Math Team, Concert and Show Choirs, Spanish Club, and track and field (grades 8-12).
