As an example of the UK market, our analysis of data provided by the Office of National Statistics estimates that there is in the region of four million lone workers employed in the UK. Each of these workers face a variety of risks at different frequencies, thus putting pressure on the employee and impacting on the provision by an employer towards his or her safety. The above diagram illustrates in more detail the numbers employed across a variety of job functions in the UK in line with the type and level of risks that are regularly faced. In addition to numbers employed, job functions are shown in line with increasing risk whether it be social risk (abuse / attack), or environmental ’Man Down’. From an international perspective, our analysis of data provided by Berg Insight suggests there are between 25 to 49 million (minimum to upper level estimated) lone workers in the top 20 geographical markets currently supplied by Connexion2.

Lone Worker Devices and Tracking
Safety first....
MobileWorkforce ManagementPlatform
Something we stress to our customers is that Identicom is a Lone Worker Device (LWD) first and foremost and is primarily designed to be implemented as a product to improve the safety of a mobile workforce. The tracking of workers can be contentious, however with over 160 attacks on UK lone workers every single day *, the ability to locate an individual should the need arise, offers considerable safety benefits that can sit alongside valuable business productivity benefits. The entire Identicom range and Identicom mobile integrate with Connexion2’s Mobile Workforce Management Platform (M.W.M.P.) due to their ability to store user positions and enable the delivery of alerts to a manager when moving between geo-fences for example. Each Identicom device has the capability for GPS data to be sent to M.W.M.P. through GPRS or 3G functionality. The location information transmitted from the devices is only acted upon by the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) in the event of a user initiating a ‘Red Alert’ on the device, putting the lone worker in control of when to be located, such as when they need assistance. The information provided and the scale of options concerning location data is designed to help a lone worker in distress to be located as quickly as possible. Integration with the Mobile Workforce Management Platform provides an employer with a powerful management tool that allows an organisation to access a range of business benefits in order to ease the flow of operations and improve efficiencies. The subject of tracking is a sensitive issue to many workforces, that’s why our product range is diverse, enabling the most appropriate solution to be utilised by an organisation. We recommend that any tracking of staff movement should be done within a structured and agreed lone worker policy on the basis of tangible benefits to the lone worker and the business. Identicom and Identicom mobile can be purchased as stand-alone devices or can include the M.W.M.P. additional option. * Source: figures taken from a variety of market sector sources including the NHS, Retailers Against Crime and Inside Housing.
Identicom range and Identicom mobile (device dependent) can be integrated with Connexion2’s Mobile Workforce Management Platform as shown opposite. The platform allows a lone worker manager to coordinate a range of operations, create Geo-fences, view a breadcrumb trail of movement and see a user at ‘street-level’.
