What is precision medicine?

Precision medicine is health care that is based on you as an individual. It takes into account factors like where you live, what you do, and your family health history. Precision medicine’s goal is to be able to tell people the best ways to stay healthy.

What is the All of Us Research Program?

The All of Us Research Program is a large research program from the National Institutes of Health. The goal is to help researchers understand more about why people get sick or stay healthy.

We hope that one million or more people will join the All of Us Research Program. People who join will share information about their health, habits, and what it’s like where they live. By looking for patterns in this information, researchers may learn more about what affects people’s health.

The All of Us Research Program will last for 10 years or more. This will allow researchers to study health over time. If you decide to join the All of Us Research Program, you will be contributing to an effort to improve the health of generations to come. You also may learn about your own health.

The goal of social engineers is to obtain your trust, then exploit that relationship to coax you into either divulging sensitive information about yourself or your organization or giving them access to your network.

Red Flags

Red flags are a sign of danger or a problem. They can be as subtle as an uneasy feeling or as obvious as an email about “suspicious charges” from a bank that you don’t even have an account with.

Cybercriminals are quite effective at getting what they want. They’ve learned that the easiest way around your organization’s defenses isn’t hacking and cracking, it’s tricking you into letting them in.
Since phishing is the most common form of social engineering, let’s take a closer look at seven areas in an email and their corresponding red flags.

Contribute to your 401(k) retirement plan

We all know we need to plan for our financial future. So, what’s the best way to plan for your financial future without having to spend too much time on it?

Did You Know:

• BBG matches 100% of the first 1% you contribute, and 50% of the next 5% you contribute? You are fully vested in the matching amount at 2+ years of employment.

• New employees - If you have not enrolled in the Plan within 30 days from your hire date, you will be automatically enrolled in the Plan at a contribution rate of 6% of your pretax eligible earnings. You are also enrolled in the automatic Increase Program which will automatically increase the contribution rate by 1% on an annual basis until the maximum percent of 8% is reached. (Note: If you do not wish to contribute to the Plan, you must change your contribution rate to 0% within the first 30 days of employment, and annually at the beginning of each year.)

• You can speak with a licensed representative for a free, confidential, one-on-one consultation!

L&D developing onboarding programs for subsidiaries

Development

In our fabulous and talented learning and development department, our team continues to focus on our organization’s No. 1 asset: You.

Our No. 1 goal, “Enhance Workforce Experiences,” means we are focused on improving our enterprise and business units’ onboarding processes.

We have engaged with STB&T stakeholders to create and implement an onboarding program to ensure all STB&T new hires understand their organization’s department dynamics, culture, expectations, and how they fit into the enterprise picture of BBG.

lab personnel and support departments. Sonja Martinez is designing an onboarding program to ensure new sales personnel hit the ground running.

We recently celebrated safety month in June, and Ken Doyle did a great job coordinating and running our safety initiatives for the month.

We also have been busy partnering with the City of San Antonio and Alamo Colleges to fill intern roles within our organization. Sonja Martinez has done a great job coordinating these efforts between our partners and our management teams needs to create intern opportunities. Thank you, Sonja!

Compensation Trends

In a world of ever-changing prices for gas, food and everyday living, it should come as no surprise that inflation affects how we evaluate employee compensation as well. Your HR Compensation team members are constantly evaluating our jobs and how they compare to the external market data.

How do we do this? Every year, we confidentially submit salary data to six reputable salary survey companies. By participating in the surveys, we are able to get salary data for a wide range of jobs within the United States. The aggregate of this data allows us to see how much a given job within our organization compares to other companies around the city, state and nation. We are able to see the impact of pricing fluctuations and external factors place on

the labor market and then analyze and determine how that impacts our employees.

At the beginning of 2022, we officially implemented a new minimum wage and increased our wages from $13.50 an hour to $15 an hour as our new starting base pay. One-third of the organization was affected by this change in an evaluation process called compression analysis.

Many employees noticed that not only did they get their annual merit increases, but also received an additional market adjustment to get them in line with our new salary ranges.

Making events fun

One of the other hats that I wear at BBG is that of Employee events.

In HR, we strive to enhance our employees’ experiences, and one of the ways we promote employee engagement and FUN is through our special events throughout the year:

San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup Charity Challenge and Field Day Event – The Corporate Cup starts in January with charity challenges and culminates in the first weekend in June with a city-wide field day. This premier “health and wellness event” is held at University of Incarnate Word and combines friendly competition, team camaraderie, athletic skills and charitable giving to produce a Corporate Cup champion.

National Walking Day Lap around the Enterprise

Camp Discovery Events – These include a Donation Day, which raises money to sponsor kids attending camp, along with a camper’s sendoff on a Sunday in July from BBG to Morgan’s Wonderland Camp; hosting a dance at Morgan’s Wonderland Camp for the campers on Wednesday night of that week; to the campers return to BBG that following Saturday.

The main purpose of Camp Discovery is to provide these children a fun and “normal” camp experience, an experience they would not be able to get at a traditional residential camp. During Camp Discovery, children experience perhaps the best week of their life by swimming, fishing, climbing, canoeing, laughing, dancing, singing, horseback riding, and simply being with other people who can relate to their situation.

Compensation Trends

The role of interviewer can be daunting. There is pressure to ask the right questions, avoid the

wrong questions and, most notably, make the best decision for you and your team.

To help meet these goals, it is important to have a good hiring process in place. This process should lay out specific questions to ask candidates, follow a format that makes sense for your team/interview panel, and should be the same for each candidate. Along with this, it is important to remember to allow time for the candidates to ask questions and have the floor as part of the interview conversation.

Designing a process that allows for uniformity can make it easier to pinpoint the right candidate to fit with your team. If you would like help reworking your hiring process, structuring interview questions, or would just like someone to practice with, please feel free to reach out to your HR Business Partner and schedule a meeting.

Our cultural transformation journey

There has never been a better time to be a BioBridge Global team member.

First, we are reminded every day of the value of the work we do to support our community by saving and enhancing lives through the power of human cells and tissue. Additionally, our company, thanks to the support of our senior leadership, has embarked upon a journey of cultural transformation to which each of us will have the opportunity to contribute.

As we have mentioned before, we have partnered with a consulting company called Softway and embraced the

philosophy of “Love as a Business Strategy .” How can the words “love” and “business” be in the same sentence?

There used to be a belief that feelings should not play a role when it came to business, that decisions and behaviors should be rational and not affected by emotional consideration. However, best practices in the industry show us that we do our best work when we feel our management is supportive, when we trust our coworkers, when can have candid conversations and improve the relationships within our team. When we truly help one another grow and thrive.

What is good for us as humans is also good for business. It guarantees we will offer top-notch products and services, have a stellar reputation in our communities and bring in the necessary income to re-invest in equipment, salaries, and other fundamental expenses.

This is why we have adopted a new engagement survey this year called Culture Counter. Thank for participating in the survey! We will share the results once they become available. And each of you will soon be invited to attend o ur Seneca training to learn more about Love as a Business Strategy. Cultural transformation is an opportunity and a responsibility for each of us. Learning & Development is looking forward to seeing you in our training sessions very soon.

2nd Performance Feedback Cycle Launching in August

It is time to go in SuccessFactors and update progress on our performance and development goals in the system. Managers will be asked to complete the second feedback form for 2022 and to meet with each team member to discuss progress on goals and future career plans.

Although there is no pay increase associated with this feedback cycle, this is a great opportunity to engage in

productive conversations about our current and future projects and objectives.
