CSUDH celebrates 16th Annual Earth Day Festival

CSUDH held its 16th annual Earth Day Festival on April 18, and the message that sustainable practices can create prosperity for people and businesses alike was clearly on display. Officially, International Earth Day is commemorated on April 22 this year, and its theme is “Invest in Our Planet.”
Organized by the university’s
Office of Sustainability, the CSUDH festival included exhibits by nearly two dozen campus and statewide organizations. Southern California Edison displayed their electric Ford F-150 Lightning to show the company’s commitment to growing their electric fleet, from pickup trucks to larger service vehicles. CSUDH celebrated the grand opening of the Toro Esports Academy, a facility dedicated to the university’s robust esports program. CSUDH embraces esports as a staple strategy to benefit enrollment, retention, recruitment, and career readiness, and is fast becoming a leader of esports among higher education institutions.
Located on the second floor of the Leo F. Cain University Library, the Toro Esports Academy is a flexible, insti- tution-wide space. It serves the entire university community by offering a practical classroom, a competitive arena, and an incubator for students. It contains 38 gaming stations, plus three broadcast stations—all equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and equipment to allow for the highest quality broadcast. The new space will provide students with the opportunity to learn game building and gaming theory, along with greater access to STEM disciplines, increased student engagement, and exceptional learning opportunities—while addressing issues of equity, inclusion, and academics.
