Featured Speaker—John D. Lukacs John D. Lukacs, a writer with a budding reputation as a World War II and sports historian, specializes in one-of-a-kind stories—the unusual, the unprecedented and the virtually unknown. His work has appeared in USA Today, The New York Times, ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com. A hands-on historian who enjoys forensic documentary research and believes that first-hand knowledge of a geographical location is essential to fashioning a riveting narrative, Lukacs has interviewed veterans and participants of nearly every major World War II battle, campaign and event, as well as visited almost every major battlefield and historical site. He recently published “Escape From Davao”, a book that chronicle s the escape of a dozen prisoners from Davao Penal Colony on Mindanao during WWII. These prisoners, including 10 Americans and 2 Filipinos, included Bataan Death March survivors. One of those escapees, Ed Dyess, later returned to the US and brought the first eyewitness accounts of the Bataan Death March and the atrocities heaped upon POWs by the Japanese. A former resident of New York City’s famed Hotel Chelsea, Lukacs, 33, lives in Arizona and Western Pennsylvania. More information about John D. Lukacs and his body of work can be found at this website: http://johndlukacs.com
