sandwich bar When planning food for a party, I usually stick to a buffet-style meal. It’s a great way to serve a variety of foods to please even the pickiest of eaters. A sandwich bar is a great idea for a lunch menu, tea party or even a midnight lunch at a wedding. Menu Ideas: You can simply stick with the basics like bread, mayo, mustard, meats and cheeses or mix it up a bit by adding in things like: • a Panini Bar where guests can load up their sandwiches then grill them. If you don’t have a Panini press, you could use a toaster oven to toast sandwiches. • a variety of tortillas, chicken strips and vegetables for making wraps • a variety of freshly baked bread from your local bakery like sourdough bread, bagels, focaccia, garlic toast, buns, baguettes, pitas, biscuits, etc. • lots of condiments like spiced mayo, BBQ sauce, hot sauce, ranch dressing, relish, guacamole, pesto, honey mustard, Dijon mustard, ketchup, tomato sauce, salsa, butter, etc. • a variety of cheeses like jalapeno Havarti, feta, marble cheese, brie, goat cheese, Swiss, provolone, pepper jack, etc.
• an assortment of meat like pepperoni, ham, chicken strips, roast beef, pulled pork made in your slow cooker, sausage, meatloaf (it’s great in a sandwich!), salami, smoked meat, etc. • other toppings such as onions, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, pickles, banana peppers, olives, bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, roasted garlic, etc. • serve sides such as baked beans, potato chips, homemade fries or potato wedges, pretzels, fresh fruit, macaroni salad, coleslaw, etc. • desserts such as cookies, squares, homemade pie, cupcakes, or bite-sized treats like truffles and chocolates Setting The Scene: When planning your menu, think of what items will need to stay chilled and how you will keep them cool. If you’re setting up your buffet outside in the summer, you’ll want to make sure that toppings like mayo stay out of the heat. A sandwich bar is easy to set up with a variety of serving trays for the meats and cheese, bowls for condiments, and baskets for the breads. You’ll also want cutlery like table knives for cutting buns, spoons for condiments, and forks or tongs for picking up breads, meats and cheeses. If your sandwich bar will be set up outdoors like a picnic style, you can use disposable serving trays like foil trays and pie plates. Leftovers: Most of us set out way too much food for a party, so expect some leftovers. I don’t know about you, but I get tired of eating leftovers for days! A great idea would be to bring out some to-go containers at the end of the party and let guests pack themselves some food to take home. This leaves you more room in your fridge and a little less to clean up after the party! I hope your next party is filled with delicious food, lots of laughter and great memories!
