Another impressive set of photos is on display in the Top Photos section of this week’s edition of Christian Life School @Play. Among those athletes portrayed in color images taken by area photographers are boys and girls basketball players at various levels and varsity wrestlers. Among those listed in the Top Performers section of this week’s edition of the digital magazine are Connor Mix, Nathan Freiberg and Samuel Porcaro, all of whom scored in double figures for the JV boys basketball team against The Prairie School Dec. 8. Others include Haley Johnson from the girls hoops team and wrestler Ryan Zierk.

The Eagles handled visiting Burlington Catholic Central, 68-59, in a Midwest Classic Conference clash. The home team put the game away at the free throw line, making good on 19 of its 21 attempts at the stripe, as the Hilltoppers were forced to play chase and foul in the final stages of the game.

Freshman boys rebound with win at Catholic Central The Christian Life boys freshman basketball team rebounded from a tight 50-45 loss against Racine Prairie Dec. 8 with a 36-28 victory at Burlington Catholic Central Dec. 10. The Eagles put forth a solid defensive effort in holding the Hilltoppers under 30 points. The team also utilized the two-pass fast break with efficiency in helping secure the win. The freshmen are demonstrating they are beginning to understand the offense much better.

JV squad wins a pair of games The Christian Life junior varsity boys basketball team won its first two Midwest Classic Conference games of the season. The squad found its rhythm in a 56-52 win versus Racine Prairie Dec. 8, then won a game away from home, emerging triumphant at Burlington Catholic Central Dec. 10, 59-42. The Eagles improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Midwest Classic Conference. Against Prairie, Christian Life broke free from a 10-10 deadlock at the end of the first quarter to grab a 22-15 halftime lead and held the advantage the rest of the way. At Catholic Central, the Eagles jumped to a 23-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Conner Mix blows by a defender.

CLS pulls out double overtime win at Catholic Central The Christian Life boys varsity basketball team got together with Catholic Central and played a thriller in Burlington Dec. 10. Regulation play could not decide the game, nor could overtime. The Eagles pulled out a 65-62 decision in double overtime in the Hilltoppers’ gym. Dan Rozema sealed the victory by connecting on a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left in double OT. The win came two days after a 56-52 victory over Racine Prairie.

CLS knocks off Kenosha St. Joseph’s, 48-25 The Christian Life varsity wrestling program is off to a big start. After winning its first ever dual meet in convincing fashion over Shoreland Lutheran to start the season, the Eagles pinned down another win, this time at St. Joseph’s, 48-25, Dec. 8. “St. Joseph’s is last year’s conference champs, so this was a huge win for us,” noted CLS co-head coach Tim Pinter. The Eagles came back on Dec. 10 to finish second in a six-team dual meet at CLS. Ryan Zierk placed first at 152 pounds, while Ethan Town (113), Josh Crouse (152), Trent Anderson (126), Eddie Fredrick (170), Brett Tennyson (182) and Paul Hammond (220/285) all took seconds. Chris Gelin (top) earned a 6-2 victory at 220 pounds at St. Joseph’s.

Jake Whitted won his 145-pound match against St. Joseph by a score of 9-6.

Paul Hammond scored the quickest pin of the evening at St. Joseph’s, terminating the 285-pound match in 1:04.
