What is the Technology exam like?  

Design and manufacture project and portfolio to be completed in 6th Yr from October to March – 200marks The Theory exam is: higher level 2hrs30mins/Ordinary Level 2hrs in duration o Section One: Short questions – 72 marks o Section Two: Core Questions – 48 marks o Section Three: Option Questions – Two Questions on optional Areas of study – 80marks Short questions and core questions are taken from a broad spectrum of the theory and practical course

How is Technology useful to me?     

The study of Technology helps to create an awareness of how technological advances can improve lives Helps to develop an understanding of how new technologies are developed and how they work Improves design abilities of students and enhances students’ creativity Incorporates project work and experience in compiling a portfolio Develops practical based skills for use in real life situations

How can I learn about Technology outside of school?     

Technological advancements often appear on the news or in newspapers or magazines Watch television programmes which explain new advancements in technology and how technology is used to manufacture objects such as ‘How it’s made’, ’Top Gear’, ’Grand Designs’ and ‘ Brainiac’ Actively try to seek out new technologies in shops, on the internet on the television etc Visit exhibitions such as open w5 in Belfast Carry out work experience in a technological area you are interested in
