“THE POWER OF THE
HOLY SPIRIT”

“And you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you…” ~ Acts 1:8
By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor1945@gmail.com

Do you ever feel spiritually discouraged, defeated or powerless? If so… keep reading! One of the major issues the disciples faced following the death of Christ was His absence. How would they get along without Him?

Their dreams were shattered; their confidence was shaken; their world caved in. Then came Easter morning! The living Christ appeared to many, including the disciples. Their spirits were re-energized. Then came another shock! Jesus announced that He would be leaving them. Following a forty day period of post-resurrection appearances, Jesus ascended into Heaven (Luke 24:50-51) where He continues to sit at the right hand of God making intercession for all believers (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25).
In the meantime, all they could do was to wait (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4, 5). Luke, who is also the author of Acts, documented how the promise was gloriously fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4). Pentecost (May 28 on the church calendar) is our celebration of the Birthday the Church. Before Pentecost, there were only about 120 Christians in Jerusalem. On the Day of Pentecost, 3000 welcomed the message of the gospel and were baptized. The number of converts increased to about 5,000 (Acts 4:4) and then spread “to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
The good news is that the same Holy Spirit who lived in Jesus is here today. Our Counselor is here! Our Helper is here! Our Comforter is here! The Spirit of Truth is here! All we have to do is open our hearts to His living presence and we will have all the power we need.
Prayer: Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. In Your strong name. Amen.
ADOPTABLE Pet of the Week!
Meet... DUCHESS
the regal pup who will rule your heart with her paw-some personality! This adorable little lady was brought to the Allegan County Animal Shelter as a lost dog. No one came to reclaim her before her hold was up. She could be a cattle dog mix—she has the typical working breed energy and intelligence! The shelter’s medical team has estimated that she is about 5 years old. Duchess' personality in one word is SMART! The shelter’s Behavior Specialist thinks she would be a wonderful candidate for sporting or performance. She's fun, focused, and driven on top of being absolutely adorable. Duchess seems to be housebroken and is familiar with basic commands. In the shelter environment, she is a bit reactive towards other dogs and would benefit from work on her dog skills. Duchess could definitely join a home that includes children and could potentially be able to have dog and cat siblings too. Kids age 8 and older who have grown up with dogs would be her best fit. Duchess is pretty selective when it comes to her canine pals, so a meeting with any potential siblings will be scheduled to ensure they meet her high standards. During her cat assessment, she was very interested in the cat and tried to play, but could be redirected. She may be able to join a home with "dog savvy" cats and owners willing to introduce them slowly and work on training.

Duchess wants to be the queen of your heart. Apply to adopt or foster this little smarty pants: wishbonepetrescue.org
