HOW TO REGIST B.A.S.E. SUMMER FUN REGISTRATION

Please note that the registration process for our B.A.S.E. camps is different than other day camps.

Step 1: Complete camp forms The B.A.S.E. Registration Packet, including all required camp forms, can be found at camp.frederickymca.org In addition to the registration packet, a Child Care Health Inventory is required for any child who was NOT enrolled in B.A.S.E. for the 2017-2018 school year. This form is called the “Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care HEALTH INVENTORY” (Form # OCC 1215) and can be found on our website at frederickymca.org. Unlike the registration packet, this form is NOT turned into the registration desk at the time of registration. It is brought to the child care site on the first day of attendance. Please do not turn in at the time of registration. Please read and sign the parent agreement before registering, for further details regarding deposits, payments, transfers, dis-enrollments, and other important information!

Step 2: Register in person at the Downtown Y B.A.S.E. Summer Fun Camp registration begins at the Camp Open House on February 11th from 2:00-4:00pm at the Downtown Y. Members and non-members can register during the open house until 4:00pm. Member registration continues after the event. Non-Member registration will begin on Feb 19th, 2018 at 8:00am.

KIDS UNLIMITED REGISTRATION You may reserve your space by making a non-refundable deposit beginning on February 11, 2018 at the Camp Open House from 2:00-4:00pm. Non-Members may register beginning February 19th at 8:00am. Please note that registration for Kids Unlimited can NOT be done online. You must contact Kelly Presnell at 301-663-5131 ext 1248 to register.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Financial assistance is available for select Y Summer Camps. You can pick up an application at the member services desk, or visit our website to download a copy. Return the completed application with requested information to the member services desk. • All applications must be completed in full and accompanied by all required documents. • Please allow up to four weeks for processing. • Financial Aid must be applied to a selected camp within 30 days of approval date. • A $25 deposit (per camper, per week) is required to apply Financial Aid to chosen camps. • Summer scholarship applications will not be accepted after 7/16/18. 4

• Refunds will not be processed for camps paid in full prior to acceptance of Financial Aid.


TER FOR CAMP REGISTRATION FOR ALL OTHER CAMPS Step 1: Complete Health Form Before registration, it is important to complete all necessary camp forms including the 2018 Health Form. Incomplete forms may result in a delay in the registration process. All forms can be found on our website at camp.frederickymca.org. Camp forms can also be picked up at the member services desks at both the Downtown Y and the Green Valley Y. Please note that a complete and accurate Health Form is a Maryland State Licensing requirement. Camp health forms MUST be submitted to the Y before registration can begin. All prescription and over-the-counter medication requires an additional form (Medication Administration Authorization Form) to be signed by a Physician prior to the beginning of camp. This form must accompany the medication when it is checked in by staff at camp.

Step 2: Register online or in person To register in person:

The Health Form information must be added to your account before you may register online. You can turn in the Health Form to the member services desk at any time. Once the health form information has been added, your account will be activated to allow for online registration. Please allow 48 hours for processing and activation.

Members and Non-Members can register at the registration desk at the Downtown Y on North Market Street in Frederick or the Green Valley Y on Fingerboard Road in Monrovia. Please bring the completed Health Form with you.

• Payment can be IN FULL or by DEPOSIT. • Payment method is cash, check, or credit card (VISA, MC, Discover, AMEX). • If registering within 3 weeks of the start date, payment in full is required for that week. If registering with a DEPOSIT, please note:

• Non-refundable deposit amount is $25/week for each camper. Balances Due will be charged to a credit card per authorization form completed by parent at the time of registration.

• Balances will be charged to the card 2 weeks prior to the start of each camp week. • Please see the Camp Policies on page 5 to view our refund policy.

CAMP INFO & P CAMP HOURS

Unless otherwise noted, camp programming occurs Monday - Friday, 9am-4pm. Before Care drop off is available 7-9am. After Care pick up time runs from 4 - 6pm. After 6pm, a late fee of $1 per minute will be charged and the total will be due at the time of pick up.

CAMP REFUND POLICY

Refunds requests must be submitted 3 weeks prior to the start date of the camp week.

The “Dis-enroll/Transfer Form” must be submitted in person for all refund requests. Requests must be submitted at least three weeks before the start date of the camp week. A $25.00 administrative fee will be charged per each refund transaction, per each camp week. There will be no refunds given for requests made after the three week deadline. Refunds will not be processed for camps paid in full prior to acceptance of Financial Aid. The following camps are provided through a contracted service and will not be eligible for a refund after May 15, 2018: all Language camps, Horsemanship, and camps at New Spire Arts.

CREDITS/TRANSFERS We do allow transfers to other available camps with no additional administrative fee. Price difference between the camps will be due at the time of transfer.

FOOD, CLOTHING & PERSONAL ITEMS

NO OPEN-TOED SHOES ALLOWED.

• Unless otherwise noted, campers need to bring their own non-perishable lunch and beverage to camp every day. • Water will be available for all camps. • Refrigeration is not available. Please, no glass containers. Small coolers and ice packs are highly recommended. • NO OPEN-TOED SHOES ALLOWED. Sneakers are recommended. Child should bring a swimsuit and towel every day. Mark first and last names on all belongings. Please do not send valuables to camp, including electronic devices. The YMCA is not liable for lost or stolen items. Lost and found items will be kept for one week from the end of each camp before items are donated.

HOT & INCLEMENT WEATHER During excessively hot weather, our camps may modify the daily camp schedule. Typically, outdoor camps will spend part of the morning outside, before spending time inside in the afternoon. In camps where indoor access is not available, the activities are modified and children are provided activities better suited to hot weather. Air conditioning is not available in all camp areas. In the event of inclement weather, i.e. thunder and lightning, the children are brought inside and provided alternate activities. In camps where being indoors may not be possible, they are brought to a safe location, under cover. Most camps continue with their normal day in the event of rain, with activities slightly modified.

POLICIES MEDICATIONS/ACCOMMODATIONS All prescription and over-the-counter medication requires an additional form (Medication Administration Authorization Form) to be signed by a Physician prior to the beginning of camp. This form must accompany the medication when it is checked in by staff at camp. The Medication Administration Authorization Form is available on our website (B.A.S.E. Camps requires the Medication Authorization form from M.S.D.E.). Please note any special medication needs on your child’s health form, and make sure medication is given to Y Staff with complete instructions for its administration. Instructions need to be written on the medication bottle and sent along with a list of possible side effects. This information can be obtained from your doctor or pharmacist. Please be sure to talk to the Y Staff if you have any special concerns/ accommodations for your child. The Y staff are trained to accommodate a wide range of medical needs and concerns, but disclosure of these issues on the Health Form allows staff to prepare appropriately. Failure to fully disclose all issues may result in your child not being able to fully participate and enjoy the experience of camp.

MINOR POLICY Camp attendees under the age of 18, must be signed in and out of camp by a parent, guardian, or other adult with prior written authorization. YMCA members age 9 and up, and who have a ‘Consent For Release Form’ on file, may be transfered to the YMCA Youth Center at the conclusion of camp programming by a designated staff person.

MOVIE POLICY Movies that are shown will only be rated G or PG.

STAFF BABYSITTING YMCA employees who are responsible for the care and supervision of your children are not permitted to babysit outside the YMCA or transport YMCA participants in their own vehicles. Our goal is to serve as role models and to help each camper gain skills and to enhance his or her self-esteem. The YMCA is committed to recruiting and developing an outstanding group of counselors and directors that are dedicated to providing the best possible camp experience.

SUNSCREEN Please apply sunscreen to your child daily and send a bottle of sunscreen labeled with your child’s name. There will be designated times throughout the day where counselors will have campers apply sunscreen.

WATER We encourage all campers to bring water bottles to camp. We do provide water for all camps and encourage children to drink throughout the day. Sugar based beverages are not recommended.

YMCA CAMP The YMCA of Frederick County operates a 72 acre residential camp located at 14509 Brown Road in the foothills of the Catoctin Mountains. YMCA Camp West Mar gives kids a perfect opportunity to experience all the best of the great outdoors. Campers will enjoy pool time, hiking, craft projects, outdoor games, canoeing, archery, and more. We have created an environment that promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility; while also preserving the legacy of the American Legion owned camp. CAMP CODE BLUE:

Ages 11-16.............................................$195/$220 This medical science camp is geared to captivate the aspiring medical professional through a wide range of STEM based activities in the field of medicine. Campers will be offered the opportunity to become certified in Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and how to use an AED machine. They will learn basic medical skills from a surgeon and talk about the spirit, mind and body connection to better health. The week ends with a tour at a local medical facility where campers meet with local medical professionals to learn more about their professions.

CAMP GIRLS ON THE RUN

Ages 7-10...................................Paid through GOTR Camp Girls On The Run (GOTR) provides an opportunity for girls to enjoy being physically active, express creativity through arts/crafts, storytelling, and through interactive lessons that build meaningful connections. CAMP SURVIVOR

Ages 8-16...............................................$195/$220 This fun filled week will be full of physical and mental challenges, outdoor adventures, co-operative games, theme days, arts and crafts, and team building activities that will bring out the SURVIVOR in them. Campers will learn how positive thinking and leadership wins the day! Field trips include a trip to the pool and a national park.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Ages 10-16.............................................$195/$220 Through service projects and local trips, Community Connections leaves campers with a positive and lasting impression by having them work together to help make a difference in their community where it is needed the most. Taught by UMS Asst. Principal Darrin Watts.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVISM

Ages 9-16...............................................$195/$220 Indoor and outdoor learning about our local flora and fauna and how we can help save our local endangered species. We can make a difference- let’s start now! Taught by UMS teacher Kimberly Linowitch.

FARM TO TABLE

Ages 8-16...............................................$195/$220 Campers will have the opportunity to learn the origins of many of their foods. They will learn how to grow, harvest, and prepare some of those foods. Campers will spend time planting, tending, and harvesting in the Y’s Giving Garden on its Urbana property. They will also help collect food for local food drops to help community members in need of fresh produce. Campers will visit local farms and take a trip to the pool!

CHOOL! HAPPY TRAILS

SECRET AGENT

Campers will hike the trails on the Y’s property in Urbana, paths in the Villages of Urbana, and surrounding areas. They will explore their senses while investigating nature’s treasures found all around them in the forests, creeks, the Y’s Giving Garden, and the Catoctin Zoo. They will create arts and crafts, and participate in small experiments and studies of the local ecosystem.

Campers have the chance to create their own secret agent identity, take lessons in a few foreign languages, learn what it takes to be an agent physically, study the newest in surveillance technology, how to survive in all types of conditions and more. The week ends with a trip to the Spy Museum in downtown Washington D.C.!

Ages 9-16.............................................. $205/$235 When you live in a corridor of incredible local, national and international history it would be a shame to not take advantage of it! Join us for trips to a wide variety of historical places; from George Washington’s home at Mt. Vernon, to colonial and civil war sites in Frederick County, and our nation’s Capital in Washington D.C. Campers will enjoy learning about our nation’s history through arts and crafts, historical games, and visits to museums and various monuments in the metro DC area. This camp involves a lot of walking.

IMAGINATION STATION

Ages 5-12...............................(Full Day) $180/ $205 Ages 5-12................................(Half Day) $90/ $102 This creative arts camp is geared for campers who will construct projects and participate in imaginative activities centered on a new theme each day. Campers also enjoy trips to the swimming pool and other outdoor recreational activities. The week ends with a trip to the Discovery Station in Hagerstown!

MAKER SPACE

Ages 10-16............................................ $230/$250 The maker lab at UMS has tools and devices related to graphic design, 3D printing and design, manufacturing, electronics, and computer science. Campers will be guided through a simple design process to decide on an individual project using the Maker Lab, then given the support and resources needed to make that project a reality. 3D printing is a focus, but campers will be encouraged to expand their ideas to incorporate multiple mediums into their finished product.

SPACE ODYSSEY

A summer camp experience with games, crafts, and activities centered on a space theme. Campers will experience a number of STEM activities such as making moon sand, creating a mock drone, studying about different aerospace planes, delving into what it is like on the space station, and learning about our universe with a focus on our own spectacular planet - Earth. Campers take trips to the ESSL in Frederick as well as to the Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.!

SPORTS UNLIMITED

Ages 5-9 & 10-14................................. $180/$205 So many sports, so little time! A wide variety of sports will be played. Sports included are: soccer, flag football, basketball, badminton, yard games such as corn hole and ladder golf, capture the flag, and more. This camp takes a trip to the pool and to a Frederick Keys game!

TEEN TREK

Ages 13-16............................................ $205/$235 If your teenagers say that they are too old for summer camp, then this camp is perfect for them. Teen Trek travels to a different location each day including theme parks, sporting events, pools, water parks, outdoor adventures, and so much more! Weekly price includes costs of admissions to daily excursions.

In order to provide camp opportunities at the end of summer, we will offer a modified Day Camp at the Downtown Y during week 11. Many of our summer camp staff are college students and return to school a few weeks prior to FCPS’s first day back for the next school year. These changes will ensure that camp is still a safe and fun experience! The modifications will help us to comply with state mandated regulations regarding staff-to-child ratios. Campers will be grouped by age and rotate through different activities each day. Age Groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 14

ARTS & HUMANITIES

The Y’s arts and humanities programs help participants experience activities that foster self-expression and build self-esteem, develop imagination, critical thinking and valuable social skills. Exposure to the arts helps campers to develop progressive skills that allow us all to connect with and understand other people and express our ideas, while providing a unique entertainment experience.

DANCE & THEATER CAMPS

LANGUAGE CAMPS

Campers will have the opportunity to learn the basics of a new language including simple conversation skills, classroom vocabulary, colors, and numbers. Campers will also study culture, learn songs & dances, create arts & crafts, and make tasty treats. Language instruction is taught by native or fluent speakers. A comprehensive schedule of sports camps is offered to introduce campers to a wide variety of sports while having fun and meeting new friends! The schedule provides the opportunity to participate in a different sport each week. Better yet, our Sports Unlimited Camp will allow your child to experience many different sports within one week.

BASKETBALL

Ages 6-12.......................... $180 / $205 Campers will focus on shooting, dribbling, and passing skills through a variety of fun drills, “lead-up� games and minitournaments.

CHEERLEADING

Ages 6-15.......................... $185 / $210 Stunt, Jump, Cheer, Dance, and Tumble your way through cheer camp. Campers will build self-confidence, leadership, and teamwork while learning basic cheer skills.

DODGE BALL

Ages 10-16........................ $180 / $205 Duck, Dive, and Dodge your way into this fun camp that plays a wide variety of dodge ball games as well as outdoor throwing and agility events.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Ages 8-14.......................... $180 / $205 Campers are introduced to basic skills and concepts of the game including running, catching, and throwing. They will also learn to execute plays while participating in an actual game setting.

GOLF

Ages 8-14.......................... $190 / $215 Campers will learn basic golf skills in a fun camp where they will experience putting, driving, rules, etiquette, and safety using the First Tee curriculum. Campers will visit local golf course, Holly Hills Country Club located in Ijamsville, MD, twice during the week to put their skills in action on the professional links.

SOCCER

Ages 6-12........................... $180/$205 This camp is a Kick! It’s great for beginners and the soccer enthusiast looking to improve their foot skills, agility, and positioning. Campers will experience individualized player development within a team setting.

TENNIS

Ages 8-14....................................................... $205/$235 Taking place at W. Frederick Middle School this summer, this camp promises to make Science fun! Science camp will use guided discovery to help kids understand the science that “surrounds” us each and every day! Campers will conduct various STEAM activities and experiments throughout the week as well as take a field trip.

COOKING

Ages 10-16......................... $205/$235 Campers will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about cooking and food preparation. Weekly themes will allow exploration of a variety of foods and cultures as well as etiquette, knife skills, and nutrition. Campers will experience a field trip to a local restaurant to work with the “pros” to create a food masterpiece. They will also spend time in the Y’s Teaching Kitchen at the Bernard Brown Center on N Market St.

FASHION

Ages 10-16..........................$210/$240 The Y’s fashion camp is designed for girls who would like to explore the world of fashion and discover their own individual style. With this in mind, the New Spire Arts has designed a unique summer camp taught by musical theatre and film maker experts. Viral Video campers will sing, dance, film, and edit to make a video! The curriculum is designed for people with little or no experience in making music videos.

CIRCUS PERFORMANCE

Ages 8-14........................................................$280/$310 Become a spectacular, amazing, marvelous Circus Performer! Take your place in the center circle as you join the New Spire Arts Circus Performance camp. Our Excursion Camps help young campers grow spiritually, mentally and physically in a positive environment. Campers participate in fun, adventure-filled weekly activities (both indoor and outdoor) that promote personal growth and encourage children and teens to make friends, acquire new skills, develop values and create memories that will last a lifetime.

TEEN TREK

Ages 13-16..........................$210/$240 If your teenagers think that they are too old for summer camp, this camp is perfect for them. Teen Trek travels to a different location each day including theme parks, sporting events, pools and water parks, outdoor adventures, and so much more. OUTDOORSMAN

PRESCHOOL ADVENTURE

Ages 4-5............................................................... $210/$240 A great first full-day camping experience for the younger camper. Campers will experience a full day of fun centered on weekly themes. Fun activities include arts and crafts, story time, outdoor adventures, water play and swimming. Children must be potty trained. Preschool Adventure Camp will operate at Beth Sholom, across from the Y, only 6/18-8/17 Preschool Adventure Camp requires in-person registration at the Downtown Y with a Preschool Adventure Camp Registration Packet which includes a Parent Agreement, “Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care HEALTH INVENTORY” (Form #OCC 1215), Emergency Form, Discipline Policy, Permission Slip, and a Medication Authorization Form if necessary.

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING

Interested in working with children? The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is designed to give teens the opportunity to gain valuable life skills through a work-like experience. The focus of the program is hands on learning, promoting teamwork, and providing a positive, safe, and fun camp atmosphere. The CITs will participate in skill development and team building workshops, as well as spend time assisting camp counselors in a specific group as assigned by the camp director. The CIT will have opportunities to assist with the overall implementation of activities and supervision of campers, while maintaining a positive, encouraging, and motivating attitude towards all summer staff, campers and activities. Individuals who wish to apply for the Counselor In Training program may download an application from our website at camp.frederickymca.org. The deadline to submit a CIT application, for returning and new candidates, is March 31. CIT’s will be chosen by April 30.
