COMBERTON VILLAGE COLLEGE
Improving life for others
UNDERSTANDING: Pupils used special gloves and eyewear to help come up with designs to help those with different needs.
Students in Years 7 and 8 have investigated the needs of others during their DT lessons, then designed and modelled something which might make their life better.
Pupils investigated, experimented and demonstrated empathy towards a diverse range of people, including those with cerebral palsy,
rheumatoid arthritis, blindness or someone who suffers panic attacks and anxiety. They worked with special gloves, which reduce dexterity and movement, and eyewear to simulate vision loss from the ‘Designing Our Tomorrow’ project at Cambridge University. DT staff were thrilled with the creative outcomes and with pupils’ ability to empathise with people less fortunate than themselves.
GETTING CREATIVE: Some of the designs that pupils came up with.
