All the things!

The Columbus Museum has always been a major attraction for the community, and the reimagining is going to make it next-level amazing. Broadening the appeal with new features and spaces, there's never been a better time to reintroduce our Museum to the world!

We are thrilled to introduce you to the newly branded Columbus Museum - or COMU! Boasting an expansive and eclectic collection of artistic and historic objects, COMU is a place where all the things come together.

Last spring, the Museum partnered with Wier Stewart, a branding and marketing agency based in Augusta to develop a fresh visual identity, aligning with our reimagined and visitor-centric building. Following an initial discovery workshop, the agency collaborated closely with a committee comprised of Trustees, staff, and community members to develop the brand.

Our rebranding efforts aimed to achieve several objectives. We sought to cultivate a visual identity that exudes vibrancy, warmth, and accessibility, with more inclusion of our younger audiences. We also aimed to design a logo that embodies the essence of our institution and its diverse collections, making a clear differentiation from other institutions on both regional and national platforms.

COMU collects and exhibits objects from across a very broad spectrum. The different letterforms in the icon represent the holdings of the Museum, which span from the classic to the abstract. Just as in art, the interpretation of any work is in the eye of the beholder, and this icon invites viewers to interpret and engage with our offerings from various perspectives.

You may be thinking, why COMU? First and foremost, a nickname is a term of endearment. It's about familiarity and personal stake in a relationship. It's an insider term for those close to a person or thing. For The Columbus Museum, the only existing abbreviation was "the Museum" which is not ownable and raises the question, "Which one?" As COMU, we offer our community a meaningful identifier while providing an accessible entry point for new visitors. "Have you checked out what's happening at COMU this weekend?"

We are thrilled about our dynamic and engaging new branding as we prepare to unveil the reimagined Museum. We look forward to welcoming you to COMU!
