The Power of Your Voice The Chamber understands and cares about the core strengths and values of our community and works to connect people to business while facilitating job growth and economic investment that promotes a strong sense of community.

We have your back is a comment heard around the table often during regular Chamber Business Advocacy Committee meetings. Having a strong Chamber of Commerce is vital to the community. The Chamber will assist any member needing support and guidance, giving each a unified voice. Some of the issues the Chamber has helped members with include: signage issues, façade improvements, rezoning and ballot issues such as Issue #24.

The Chamber in partnership with the City has worked hand in hand to support the continued vitality and success of the Community Entertainment District and the Lane Avenue corridor. “I truly value the opportunity I had to talk directly with the business owners about issue #24, and the continued redevelopment on Lane Ave,” said Becky Hajost, President.

To let the merchants on the Lane Avenue corridor know that the Chamber supports a yes vote, the Chamber staff went doorto-door visiting merchants to listen to their concerns and to share information

Great shopping ideas for the holiday help support chamber members The weather may still feel warm, but the holiday season is upon us and that means shopping for holiday gifts. The UA Chamber’s Best Gift Ideas program is just another way that the Chamber is trying to promote member businesses within the community. The program offers members an opportunity to market their business through a Chamber promotion while positively impacting their retail holiday sales.

Conducting independent risk assessments of IT systems and business processes or implementing encryption helps find ways to minimize security and business risks and often reduces costs. Before starting his company, Robert spent a decade leading teams through organizational changes, solving problems and implementing best practices, improving processes and creating savings in large public health organizations. He has had the opportunity to work in leadership roles like Chief Financial Officer, Director of Performance Improvement and Chief Budget Officer.

Robert maintains the AHIMA professional certification of Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) and HIMSS certification of Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS). Robert is also a public notary.

He is a member of the following professional organizations: AHIMA, OHIMA and CSOHIMSS. He also serves as a President of the non-profit Polish American Club in Columbus, Ohio, and is member of the Upper Arlington Chamber of Commerce and Tech Columbus. Robert is also a proud father of Bogna Brzezinska, first year medical school student at the Wright State University.

Kevin Fix, CPA Newhaven Capital Advisors Kevin Fix, CPA, is the owner and Managing Principal of Newhaven Capital Advisors, LLC, an independent financial consulting firm serving the needs of small businesses, business owners and professionals. Prior to launching his firm in 2011, Kevin worked for more than 20 years in accounting and finance, first as a practicing CPA and then in all facets of company financial management. He spent 15 of those years with AT&T, Inc. and several of its affiliates, including Ameritech Corporation and Sterling Commerce. Kevin has served as a public company Controller and Treasurer and has extensive capital market experience.

Kevin earned Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and International Studies from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Ohio Society of CPAs and the Financial Planning Association. Kevin currently serves on the boards of the Central Ohio chapter of Financial Executives International, Forty Plus of Central Ohio, and Leadership UA, and is a past Board Member and Treasurer of the American Chamber of Commerce in Denmark.

Kevin lives in Upper Arlington with his wife, Amy, and their three children.

Rob Maccabee Payex Rob Maccabee is a Columbus native and has been an entrepreneur since he was old enough to shovel snow and rake leaves.

After graduation from Capital University with a degree in Music Education, he started his first business with a college partner- Macwood Audio Group - a commercial music and audio advertising production company. In handling all of the direct selling and marketing of Macwood for 5 years, Rob began his career in working with small businesses and learning about their sales and marketing challenges.

He began consulting merchants for Card Payment Systems (later to be renamed Payex™) in 2000 and quickly transitioned into the roles of sales manager and marketing director where he was instrumental in focusing the company’s product offerings and target markets. In early 2011 Rob was promoted to Senior Vice President of Business Development at Payex.

Rob just set out on his latest venture as a partner with Cliing™ Marketing, where he is using his experience and passion for local business to develop marketing systems in the mobile space that help small brands thrive.

Chris Miller The Arlington Bank Chris Miller is with the Arlington Bank Lending Team and was one of the first members to go through the Arlington Bank “Management Training Program.” Prior to joining Arlington Bank, Chris had a background in public accounting.

He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Kent State University, where he was a 4-year letterman with the Men’s Varsity Golf Team and received the honor of Academic All-American. As an undergraduate, Chris double majored in accounting and finance and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration. He earned his Master of Business Administration in 2009.

Chris Potts; Executive Director of Business Services Upper Arlington City Schools Chris is a 1994 graduate of Avon Lake High School. He received his BA in psychology from Denison University in 1998, where he also earned 4 varsity letters as a member of the basketball team and served as team captain his senior year. In 2001, Chris earned a Master’s Degree in Sport Management and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University and has been employed in the Upper Arlington City School District since. Chris spent two years as campus supervisor at the high school, six years as the District’s Athletic Director and is in his fourth year as Executive Director of Business Services for Upper Arlington City Schools. Chris and his wife, Megan, a 1994 Upper Arlington graduate, reside in Upper Arlington and have three children, Natalie (7), Charlotte (5) and Ryan (4).

Jack Salvato President, Member Salvato & Associates, LLC Mr. Salvato has over 20 years of experience and training as a scientist (BA Chemistry and MS Biology) and businessman (MBA). These skills were utilized in the development, management and implementation of strategic and tactical business plans from startup to multi-billion dollar companies. He mastered all functional areas of print and broadcast advertising production and media planning.

His company does strategic consulting taking your concept to commercialization by assisting you in new product development, the writing of a strategic business plan and the tactical marketing and sales guidelines and goals.

Teressa Snedegar Owner, SportsClips Hair Cuts My husband and I opened Sport Clips last December on Lane Avenue. We were excited about the location because we knew from being lifelong residents of Central Ohio that Upper Arlington was a great community. As a new business owner, it was my desire to join the Chamber to meet other business owners and get involved with the community. I currently am a member of the Retail Committee and have taken part in many of the Chamber Events including the Community Marketplace, the Celebration, and the Taste of UA. The opportunity to be a board member will allow me to increase my involvement in Chamber Events and continue to build a strong relationship with the community.

Before opening Sport Clips, I served as a manager with CenturyLink located in Dublin for 12 years. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

#24 is good for Upper Arlington! It will create an exciting new Community Entertainment District along Lane Avenue as well as prevent a glitch in Ohio law from removing existing liquor licenses from establishments where we love to gather.

• “Yes” means that all of the existing liquor licenses owned by businesses on Lane Avenue will be protected. (Most of those businesses are family establishments, enjoyed by all generations of Upper Arlington residents.)

•“Yes” means that new

• “Yes” means that we are protecting our city’s valued tax base simply by keeping people in business.

• “Yes” means that the additional licenses created by Issue #24 become an ongoing asset for the area. If a restaurant leaves Lane Avenue, the license stays put, thus ensuring a healthy longevity for this corridor.

It is the goal of the Chamber’s Business Advocacy committee to be proactive in its recogni-
