10. “GOOD-TIME SLIM, UNCLE DOOBIE, AND THE GREAT ‘FRISCO FREAK-OUT’”
This 1971 gem starring Troy McClure was a classic hippie-era caper involving car chases, diamonds and, of course, the imitable Uncle Doobie. McClure sadly was robbed at the Oscars by a young Jack Nicolson.
9. “HITLER DOESN’T LIVE HERE ANYMORE”
McClure proves he’s a triple threat by starring in this offBroadway musical. As his debut, McClure shined in humanizing (and harmonizing) History’s Greatest Monster.
8. “LOCKER ROOM TOWEL FIGHTS: THE BLINDING OF LARRY DRISCOLL” Things could’ve gone way worse for old Larry Driscoll.
7. “ALICE’S ADVENTURE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD GLASS”/“60 MINUTES OF CAR CRASH VICTIMS”/“THE DECAPITATION OF LARRY LEADFOOT”/ “DESIGNATED DRIVERS: THE LIFESAVING NERDS” If only these public service films on the dangers of driving could actually be shown. Apparently the McClure estate has too high an asking price. When will the carnage end?
6. “DIG YOUR OWN GRAVE AND SAVE” McClure, you thrifty bastard!
5. “FUZZY BUNNY’S GUIDE TO YOU-KNOW-WHAT” If you’re going to make a sex-ed video that’s geared toward children and preaches abstinence — by using cartoon bunny rabbits who wait until marriage — McClure is the only voice actor to do it. “And now that you know how it’s done … don’t do it.” Well, I’m sold.
4. “GET CONFIDENT, STUPID!” Self-help videos were another of McClure’s staples, and this was one of his finest efforts. Sometimes we all — especially those with low self-esteem — need tough love.
3. “LEAD PAINT: DELICIOUS BUT DEADLY” Without McClure we’d have never known the danger of that delicious, delicious paint. Mmmm, plumbism.
2. “AMERICA’S FUNNIEST TORNADOES” As the host of this (way too) short-lived television series, McClure officially started the debate: Troy McClure or Tom Bergeron?
