Peer Specialist The Peer provides assistance and support to clients with severe and persistent mental illness. This person functions as a peer support to clients and assists case managers in carrying out CPST activities and tasks. He/She works with clients in their natural environments. The Peer is a person who has a unique perspective of serious mental illness because of his/her own experience with the consequences and recovery processes of psychiatric disorder(s). This experience enables peers to understand client struggles with mental illness and provides them with unique sensitivity to client issues. Present and/or past experience as a mental health consumer with a serious mental illness and a high school diploma/GED required. AS/BA degree and/or license in related field preferred.
