DESCRIPTION AND BRIEF HISTORY

Founded in 1879, Columbus College of Art & Design is one of the oldest and largest private art colleges in the country. CCAD’s 14-building campus is located on nine acres in downtown Columbus and is within walking distance of the Columbus Museum of Art, the main branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, and the Ohio Statehouse.

Administration Building (ADM) 107 N. Ninth St. Building doors open Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–9:30 p.m.; card access until 2 a.m.

CCAD offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in nine major areas of study: Advertising & Graphic Design, Animation, Cinematic Arts, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Photography. All BFA students complete traditional academic coursework in the sciences and humanities in addition to their studio requirements. A graduate degree, the Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts: New Projects, is also available

ACADEMIC CALENDAR WELCOME We’re glad you’re here, whether you are new to CCAD or are returning to campus! At CCAD, we take great pride in the quality of our programs and people, and are dedicated to providing you with an outstanding education. We’re also proud that our campus community is one where we look out for others and are committed to each other’s success. This handbook describes policies and information that help us maintain an effective learning environment and help you graduate on time with the knowledge you need to make your mark in the world. It is your responsibility to know and abide by these policies and procedures, so please pay careful attention to them. Enjoy this time, study hard, and let us know how we can help. HANDBOOK CONTENT

Columbus College of Art & Design reserves the right to change any policy or procedure outlined in this handbook, which was last updated in spring 2014. Every effort will be made to communicate future handbook changes in a timely manner.

All policies in the CCAD student handbook apply to both undergraduate and graduate students, unless stated otherwise under Graduate Program Policies (see p. 42).

In addition to sixteen-week Fall and Spring Semesters, CCAD offers an eight-week Summer Semester, two four-week Summer Sessions, and a May Minimester. May Minimester is a short semester designed to offer an intense experience working in one area with faculty, mentors, or visiting artists. Courses taken during these abridged semesters carry full credit.

BUILDING LOCATIONS AND HOURS All CCAD facilities and college-services offices follow a unified pattern of operating hours according to the time of year. Please note that regular hours may be changed or extended for special events. Please see individual building listings below for facility color codes and phone numbers. Regular Hours (Weeks 1–13 of Fall & Spring Semesters) Offices: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. “Green” Facilities: Daily, 7 a.m.–2 a.m. “Yellow” Facilities: Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–midnight; Friday–Sunday, noon–10 p.m. “Red” Facilities: See individual facility listings.
