Music Industry Uncovered is an opportunity to meet senior industry figures who will share their inside knowledge on how to break into this highly competitive sector.

The MixRadio Remix Academy is an Arts Award Supporter. Arts Awards are a great way for young people to be inspired by and enjoy the arts, and is an opportunity for them to develop their arts and leadership talents, and receive a nationally recognised qualification. Remix Sessions are drop-in workshops where young musicians of all abilities can get expert help and guidance to explore their musical interests and advance their talent and skills. This is where tracks are created, bands are formed and performance skills are developed.

The Remix Youth Ensemble is a multi-genre modern youth orchestra open to all abilities. Drawing on the cultural diversity of Bristol the ensemble fuses different musical styles such as indie, funk, hip hop and dubstep. This is new Bristol music at its best.

Love music but not the limelight? Remix Takeover could be for you. Remix Takeover is Colston Hall’s young people led event initiative.

Start your musical journey. Remix Juniors enables young musicians to explore their creativity through a wide variety of musical games, activities and projects.

Activities include: • Songwriting • Vocals • Bands • Music production • DJing

The ensemble works with professional musicians to create original pieces of music. Each piece is performed by the ensemble in venues like Colston Hall, The Lantern and at events and festivals across the UK such as WOMAD, Bristol Harbour Festival and Brisfest.

Young musicians will also benefit from regular visits from music industry professionals at MixRadio, plus specialist advice given by colleges BIMM, Access to Music & dBs and representatives from Knowle West Media Centre.

Rehearsals take the shape of weekly workshops and week long intensive sessions over the school half terms to develop new material, record and rehearse.

There is no need to book or register in advance, you can turn up on the day. Bring your own instruments if you prefer but our spaces have all the equipment you’ll need available for use.

Become part of Remix Takeover and you will learn about: • Programming • Promotion • Artist liaison • Stage management • Press • A&R Gain hands on experience in the music industry with advice and guidance from experienced members of Colston Hall and MixRadio team, by programming and promoting support slots and headline acts for The Lantern plus get the chance to run stages at festivals such as Brisfest, Shambala, Green Man and Bristol Harbour Festival. As a member of Remix Takeover you will also have the opportunity to become part of the Youth Voice group of Bristol Music Trust.

We have seen young musicians forming bands, writing songs, improvising with loop pedals, developing instrumental skills, soundtracking films, making beats with iPads, and developing live performances. Aimed at the Key Stage 2 age group – each term has a different focus. Activities include: • Improvisation • Forming a band • Singing • Instrument making • Beat making • Songwriting

Takes place three times a year in The Lantern and programmed by the Remix Takeover team. These showcases are aimed at providing a professional platform for bands and performers who have come up through the MixRadio Remix Academy.

We also provide opportunities to perform on festival stages across the UK which so far have included Green Man, Shambala, Brisfest and Bristol Harbour Festival.

The first rung of the performance ladder. Every month on a Saturday young musicians from the MixRadio Remix Academy perform their music to an audience in the Colston Hall Foyer. Reflect on your performance and get feedback from others.

Bristols’ youth record label based at The Station provides support for young emerging musicians, enabling them to develop a career in the industry by recording and releasing tracks, performance opportunities and mentoring. The Uncovered Series is aimed at informing young people aged 13+ thinking of making career choices and at the point of choosing GCSEs. The series takes the shape of conferences, seminars and day-long workshops. All of our events are facilitated by music industry experts and professional musicians.
