Who is the Holy Spirit & what does He do? The Spirit equips the Church with every spiritual gift they need to do every work of ministry. He also is the one who prepares and accomplishes these works of ministry.

Sometimes we like to have definitive lists in order to categorize people (ex: personality test). However, the Bible has several spiritual gift “lists’”, and they are not the same. In other words, spiritual gifts do not seem to be mass produced like a product in a store. Instead, they are given by the Spirit, for the specific needs, of the specific church, at that specific time. And they are not given the same to all. Instead, the local church is given all that they need from all their members working together. Do you tend to think of your spiritual gifts as given to “you” for “your ministry”? How might the truth that Spiritual Gifts are incomplete unless used with the rest of your church family serve as a helpful correction?

Re-read verse 18. We often get passionate about works of ministry that align with our gifts. The problem comes when we demand others live according to our gifting. Have there been times where you have judged others for not acting according to the passions and gifting that the Spirit gave you and not them?

Spend time this week asking God to show you how He wants you to work for “the common good” of our local church family.
