Northglenn achieves Public Works accreditation

Department to show o facilities at open house

For the rst time, the Northglenn Public Works Department received full accreditation by the American Public Works Association.

“ e purpose of accreditation is to promote excellence in the operation and management of a public works agency, its programs and employees,” a news release reads.

e accreditation solidi es that the department is in full compliance with the recommended practices set by the Public Works Management Practices Manual. Receiving the status includes ve major steps to demonstrate compliance. e honor comes as Northglenn is set to host a Public Works Open House on May 23. May 21-27 is Public Works Week. e event will host “food, giveaways, learning and hands-on fun” and is free. e low recruitment numbers also come as foreign tensions rise, such as the Russia-Ukraine War. But those issues aren’t pushing the army to give more attention to recruiting, she said.

Northglenn is the ninth agency in Colorado to achieve accreditation.

Attendees can learn more about streets, water and wastewater, engineering and environment.

“Once people know about it, unless someone introduces you to this, you may not ever know what a great opportunity lies away out there for many of our young people,” she said.

She said it wasn’t a directive for generals to head back to their hometowns to advertise the opportunities and her presentation was part of her visit home. When she heads back to Miami, she’ll be doing similar events.

“ is is nothing new. It’s not new for our country to face challenges we have had over centuries,” she said.

Richardson also emphasized that the United States is proud of its democracy. Many of the foreign tensions are with communist countries.
