Consistent care
Susan Keithley, Adams County nurse manager for Sexual Health and Harm Reduction, said they are developing mobile program to ensure that they are consistently in areas where the community needs assistance.
“We want to ensure we are putting the word out about Narcan in the fentanyl testing strips. We are also doing the syringe exchange because we want to prevent infection. It’s why we’re doing HIV and syphilis testing,” Keithley said.

“We want everyone in Adams County to be educated and carry Narcan in case you come into a situation with an unresponsive young person. It’s a very easy step that can be lifesaving,” Velez said. In addition, it offers other services such as Pap smears and mammograms.
The clinic accepts Medicaid, CHIP+ and other insurance. Service fees are on a sliding scale said.
People who administer Narcan in good faith are protected legally, she said. Wilson said there is a statute called the Colorado Good Samaritan Act for emergency care CRS §13-21-108, which protects persons giving emergency assistance from civil liability.
“After calling 911, I will not be held accountable, if I’m unsuccessful in saving a life. They will not charge me for whatever I did because it was more important that I saved your life,” Wilson said.
“It also encourages substance users to call 911 who are afraid to call because they have drugs in their based on income.
Adams County Sexual Health Clinics located at 1401 W. 122nd Westminster are open from Monday- Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. Open Fridays, 8:30-11 a.m. and 1-5 p.m. The other clinic is at North Broadway, 7000 N. Broadway Ste N109.

“We are hoping as we get our mobile unit going, that we’ll be able to bring treatments with our mobile unit. It has been one of the largest barriers to care besides financial or lack of health insurance being un-housed and not having transportation,” Keithley said. “If we’re able to bring all our service, we can treat people where they are.” backpacks; they won’t be charged because they save lives.”
Standing order
Velez said that the state has a standing order for Narcan distribution. They can educate and supply anyone in Adams County who wants to learn and have questions.
“We provide Narcan at no charge for anyone who wants it. The Colorado statute states that we could carry it in high schools and elementary schools, it obviously it has to go through the state school boards for the school districts but we have a standing order here with Adams County to distribute it,” Velez said.
