Westminster archival center grand opening
Mark your calendars for April 18 for the grand opening of the Westminster Archival Center and the celebration of the 25th anniversary of College Hill Library.

It’s been a bumpy road over the past seven years for the supporters who have lobbied and pursued an archival center for Westminster. History is made every day in some way and unfortunately it has been slipping through our ngers for too long. Now, with the initial, small home of the Center being established at College Hill Library with a part-time archivist, the public will at some point be able to enjoy and bene t from Westminster’s own archival location.
Initially, the focus will be internal on collecting and preserving records for city departments. e ultimate goal is to have the Center housed in its own building with a full-time archivist with plenty of volunteers. e vision is to eventually house historic documents and photographs of not only the City of Westminster, but local organizations, institutions and individuals’ items which enrich the community’s history.
It should be noted that the Westminster Historical Society o ers historical documents and photographs to the public as well. A key part of a community is its history. By preserving and displaying such documents, the Westminster community will be strengthened.
25 years of reading enjoyment, research, learning and service
Newer arrivals to Westminster may not know how College Hill Library came about. As we found out in 1996 when researching a model for a municipality and a community college coming together to build and operate a joint library, this type of partnership had not been tried elsewhere in America. With the support of the Westminster City Council and the State Community College Board of Directors, an intergovernmental agreement was crafted by the two sta s and approved by the two governing bodies.
