Lakewood salutes U.S. Marine Corps Day

Lakewood’s City Council has declared April 29 U.S. Marine Corps Memorial Day and members of the council highlighted things to do and issues in their wards.
e USMC Memorial commemorates the 45-year-old monument at 6th and Colfax Avenues.
Located in Golden, it was dedicated in 1976. It is meant to honor Marines and all who served and includes ve walkways that represent di erent aspects of acknowledging service for Marines, as well as other branches. Four of the walkways are reserved for Marines, the remaining walkway is dedicated to other service members. Veterans with honorable service as well as active duty service members may donate a brick commemorating their service.
e US Marine Corps Assn. has cared for and commemorated the memorial with events, annual ceremonies, and soon with a visitors and veterans center.

e day will also be observed in Denver, at the Brown Palace Hotel at 321 17th St. e public is invited to attend. For more information, go to the USMC Memorial Foundation website.

Ward 1 Councilmember Charley Able invited the public to the Gigi’s Playhouse fun run. e Gigi’s Fit Acceptance Challenge event is happening on April 29 at Belmar Park. Gigi’s Playhouse supports kids with Down Syndrome. is fundraiser is an annual event meant to support the organization. You can nd more information at the Gigi’s Playhouse Denver website.
Sharon Vincent of Ward 2 invited the public to visit two new businesses in her ward: 5280 Burger Bar and My SalonSuite. 5280 Burger is located on 14500 W. Colfax Ave. #345 and My Salon Suite of Lakewood is at 98 Wadsworth Blvd. #108.
Wendi Strom of Ward 5 invited the public to her May 5 meeting at Westwood Community Church, 7700 W. Woodard Dr. Strom reminded gardners of a free mulch event on May 6 and May 13. Residents of Lakewood can come on those days to get fresh mulch. Resident can get the mulch at the City Forestry Department, at the City Greenhouse 9556 W. Yale Ave.
Ward 3’s Anita Springsteen called for more attention on the death of Patricia Dilworth. e 69-year-old woman was last seen at Teller Street and West Alameda on Jan. 6 and found dead Feb. 6. e case is still open.
