Norris Croom, surrounded by family, friends and supporters who packed town hall, was sworn in Oct. 16 as Castle Rock’s latest fire chief. The Castle Rock Town Council ratified Croom’s appointment as chief on Sept. 18. He was selected from among five finalists in a nationwide search by Town Manager David Corliss. Former Chief Art Morales retired in May. Croom, 51, will start at an annual salary of $158,000. He brings more than three decades of experience with the Castle Rock Fire Department to the job, having started as a volunteer firefighter. He has spent his entire 32year career with Castle Rock. He served as deputy chief under Morales and was acting chief while
Croom the town’s nationwide search was underway. “I never envisioned that I would be doing this when I started in 1986,” Croom said, thanking the crowd, “but here we are today.”
