HIDDEN HILLS GRADUATES

When we started this magazine three months ago, our goal was simple, share the stories that are uniquely “Hidden Hills,” with the people who are also uniquely “Hidden Hills.” As there is no question that there is a certain esprit d’ corps among those who live here, we still have been pleasantly suprised by those who have been willing to let us shine a light on their personal lives in both words and images.
In this issue, we are extra honored to be able to feature our Hidden Hills graduates, who have missed the traditions of this important milestone due to the coronavirus pandemic. Being able to do this, small a gesture as it may be, is exactly why we continue to publish during this time, that has not only been challenging in all of our day-to-day lives, but also for the local businesses who wholeheartedly support our community.
In that light, if you know of any businesses that you think your neighbors might love, please let them know about us.
More importantly, if you have a story that you’d like to share, or something you’d like to see us cover, please let us know! As those who have already graced our pages will tell you, we will be right on it, giving every story the resources, photography and writing each deserves so that each of you can look forward to this little monthly read.
When these young adults started their educational journey long ago, who could have imagined that such a meaningful milestone would be pulled-out from under them? No “Pomp and Circumstance.” No
being handed their diplomas. No family or friends to gather to celebrate. Now, thanks to their parents, who have so generously shared their photos and stories, we are thrilled to take this moment honor their accomplishments.

On the morning of Friday, May 22, Round Meadow Elementary students and their families reunited with teachers and staff for the first time since LVUSD schools made the temporary move to distance learning. Organized by local parents, the motorcade made its way down Round Meadow Road, up Long Valley, and then along Spring Valley Road exiting at the Burbank gate. Revelers gathered along the route holding signs thanking their teachers for everything they have done for them. Dozens of cars drove by, each filled with school staff (many with their own families) and decorated with words of love and encouragement to local students.

Local dirtbike enthusiasts within our neighborhood took a socially distanced getaway to Silverwood Lake. The morning began on Long Valley Road, and once the group was together, their caravan of 8 riders and 8 trucks began their journey to Silverwood Lake, located at the end of the Mojave River in the San Bernardino mountains. “We suited up and headed on the trails through the forest and water crossings up and down
the terrain into Lake Arrowhead for Lunch” recalls Hidden Hills resident and dirtbiker Steve Weber, “We ordered food to go from the local Mexican restaurant and each of us ate at separate tables to keep social distancing.” After their socially distanced snack, the men got back on the bikes and headed back to the trucks for a great day of riding in the mountains.
PRING IS THE IDEAL TIME TO GIVE YOUR HORSES THEIR ANNUAL VACCINES since this is when mosquitoes and other vectors that spread disease are active.
Always consult with your veterinarian for the best protocol for your horses, but the recommended vaccines in our area include: Tetanus
Eastern and Western Equine Encephalomyelitis
West Nile Virus
Flu/Rhino (important if your horse is travelling or in contact with horses that travel to shows and other venues)
Horses should have a dental check once a year. Floating their teeth is generally needed annually. By “floating,” an equine veterinarian will smooth and contour your horses’ teeth, evening out the teeth surfaces. Your horse is unable to eat and digest properly if the teeth have sharp points or if the surfaces don’t match up properly. Sharp teeth can cause painful sores on the inside of your horses’ mouth. Signs your horse needs a dental procedure include dropping food
while eating, balls of chewed hay left near the feeding area, excessive salivation, weight loss, excessive bit chewing, mouth odor, facial swelling, or sores on tongue or inside of cheeks. Don’t wait for those signs. Horses are adaptable creatures and likely will not let you know they’re in pain.
It’s important to consult with an equine veterinarian regarding your horses’ teeth. Teeth are a big part of your horse’s health and wellbeing.

HELP THEM WITHOUT YOUR HELP
Homegrown harvesters started with a phone conversation between neighbors asking if you had any spare fruit. It turned out a lot of residents had extra, so the Bryson Boys and the Lenkov Family decided to harvest backyard fruit from their neighbors. The Lenkov boys printed out flyers and distributed them to all of Hidden Hills, while their
parents posted on social media platforms as well. The harvest began in April and sill continues. They make weekly deliveries to various nonprofit organizations who joyfully receive the bounty. Patrick TJ and John BRYSON spend their Tuesdays at Fresh Market distributing groceries to those in the community who have been affected by recent events. Homegrown Harvesters
hopes to continue gather throughout the summer with stone fruit and continue the rest of the year with grapes and apples. So if your trees are overloaded, let them know. They would be happy to have your homegrown harvest!
