Spelling Unit 1

Spelling ff, ll, ss and zz Many words have double letters at the end (ff, ll, ss and zz). We use double letters at the ends of short words with short vowel sounds. For example: off, well, miss and buzz

Spelling ck after a short vowel When a word ends with a /k/ sound and it has a short vowel sound in the middle, it is spelt ck. For example: back

Spelling Unit 4

Spelling words with two syllables Long words can be split into parts called syllables. Syllables are like beats. For example, the word sunset has two syllables (beats): sun / set. It is easier to spell long words if you split them into their syllables.
