After graduating from Collegiate, Meera attended the VCU guaranteed medical program

and graduated from VCU’s School of Medicine in 2005. She went on to complete a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious disease at Cornell University in New York City. While there, she also received a master’s degree in clinical science and epidemiology. From 2009 to 2011, Meera lived and worked in Durban, South Africa, studying quality-of-life issues in patients affected by HIV. After South Africa, she returned to Richmond to complete a Palliative Care Fellowship at VCU.

Meera currently works in the the Hematology/Oncology and Palliative Care Division

at VCU. She spends most of her time on the Palliative Care Unit and also attends on the infectious disease consult service. When she is not taking care of patients, she is passionate about teaching medical students.

She also serves as president of the 5P foundation, a charitable organization started by

her parents, Kamini and Subhash, her sister Gargi ’92 and her brother Rishi ’04. In addition to providing support for organizations focused on health care, gender equity and promoting education, the foundation also provides life-saving blood transfusions, treatment and curative bone marrow transplants for patients with thalassemia in India. Meera also serves on the board for the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood.

Meera loves being back in Richmond and is excited to be a part of the Collegiate

community again.

I want to be involved with Collegiate’s Alumni Board because Collegiate’s values and education had such an impact on me and my career, and I want to be a part of continuing that tradition for my children and future generations. I hope I bring a female leadership that encourages diversity, academic excellence and supports girls and boys to engage in academic paths that they are truly excited about.”
