CAMERA LENS CAPTURES PERFORMANCE ART BY MARTIN BAUTISTA PHOTOS BY MARTIN BAUTISTA
T
hese photos represent my collaboration with the ballet dancer, Rebecca Joy. We met in a dance class. Two artists work together to share their vision with anyone who can appreciate it. Dance inspires me as an art form. I try to explore its similarities to other forms of art. I wanted to incorporate lines and shapes that the dancer made with her body into the composition of the photo, so that the location and the dancer interact in a sense. I used this opportunity to study light and shadow and how it falls on the dancer throughout her movement. More importantly, these images were a way for me to not only explore, but to acknowledge, appreciate and share the beauty and significance of dance. Like other artists, dancers are not paid very well, and they can really wear down their bodies for the sake of their art. If even one person can appreciate dance more through these photos, then I am satisfied. ∫
