“She followed me around the world for 40 years. It was time I followed her.”

Igrew up with an Irish mother and an Italian father. My Irish grandmother was in our lives daily and we were greatly influenced by her and surrounded by family. We celebrated all things Irish! I finally got my citizenship through my grandmother and did that simply to honor her.

My husband and I were living in Belize, Central America when on my birthday he looked at me and said, “You’ve followed me around the world for 40 years. Let’s go move to Ireland!” This was in 2018. We took the next year to prepare for this next adventure and moved here to Cork in June, 2019.

We had visited Ireland before for a vacation in 2010 and met cousins in County Mayo, where my grandmother is from. So, now I feel like I’m truly home!

The pulse of the city, the culture, the various things to do, the convenience of not having a car and yet, everything we need is within walking distance. The people are friendly and helpful! The weather is grand!

I’m a citizen and my husband wants to apply in five years when he can so yes, we do see our lives here! We can't imagine living anywhere else!
