A Big Thank-You… To all the people who helped sell the June and July 1940’s style newspapers. We raised nearly £1000 for our two charities and a lot of readers enjoyed the content and have asked, “when we are going to do it again?” Maybe towards Christmas or when an event which needs promoting, but in the meantime the magazine will be produced every month. The October issue sees the introduction of the food and entertainment guide and we are hoping that all the pubs, restaurants, venues and those wishing to organise parties and events will contribute. Call today on 08456199038 to book your advertisement as space will be limited on a first come first served basis or go to www.yourlocaltimes.co.uk/guide to see who’s in.

Photographer of the Year When a camera was dropped into the meerkat exhibit at West Midland Safari Park, it wasn’t long before one rather inquisitive member of the gang came along to investigate. Whilst the others remained at a distance, one young adult meerkat nicknamed Indie by the staff took the lead and cautiously approached the foreign object that was not at all familiar to any of them. Meerkats are known for their skittish behaviour and although Indie appeared to be a little suspicious at first, he then delighted staff by peering into the camera lens. It soon became clear from his antics that he could see his own reflection. He tried everything to make contact with this newly found buddy, before finally accepting that the whole thing was a great

mystery - even to a brave little meerkat like Indie. So great has been the interest in the new meerkat exhibit at West Midland Safari Park, the Park is launching an entirely new mini site today, purely for fans of these adventurous little animals. It is based upon the new Meerkat Mayhem exhibit which opened this year as part of a £1m investment in new attractions that has been launched during 2011. Follow the link below to get a taste of even more action: http://www.wmsp.co.uk/ compareourmeerkats During the whole of August Meerkat Mayhem, which is located in the African Village, is open until 8.00pm as the Park hosts its Summer Nights season. Last admission to the Park is at 7.00pm. The standard admission charge for adults is £13.99 and £11.99 for children. A family saver ticket costs £46.76, which admits two adults and two children and offers a 10% saving on standard admission prices. Admission prices also include a free return ticket. Amusement rides are charged extra in all cases. Further information is available from the Park’s official website www.wmsp.co.uk or by telephone 01299 402114. So, what are the advantages? • We can access the account anytime and from anywhere in the world. • It is easy to use and intuitive.

We can go on-line to write all our invoices, which can be sent out by email or printed off to post. Jargon Busters – Part 1: I think it’s safe to say that in all walks of life, in every field, there will be words, phrases, abbreviations and lingo that are unique to that line of work – if you overheard two brain surgeons talking there could be called a “sympathetic resonance” between them, likewise car mechanics, plumbers, electricians and solicitors, they all have their own “language” exclusive to that particular line of work. You, on the outside looking in, would probably stand there in total bewilderment while they quite happily ramble on totally oblivious to the fact that you have absolutely NO IDEA what they’re talking about !!! The same goes for computers and whilst the vast majority of users will openly admit that they know very little about how they work, it can be quite daunting if you’re looking at purchasing your first machine. I know for a fact some outlets (who will remain anonymous) will quite …a nice regularly take advantage looking of this ignorance by recommending or selling and practical you something way exterior is more expensive and thus, far in excess of essential… your humble needs, than you ever envisaged – “ I only wanted a laptop to go on facebook and email my daughter in Africa” (having just spent the best part of £600 on a system that could run NASA with its hands tied behind its back....). We hear it all the time and whilst you can quite happily drive a car your entire life without understanding how an internal combustion engine works, I think it’s safe to say that in the computing world, sometimes a little knowledge can be dangerous, so with that in mind I am going to try and make you a little wiser in all things “compu-speak” so when you go to buy your brand new super duper Pentium wonder machine, at least you might have a chance of getting involved in the sales pitch or least understanding what the hell they’re on about... So, where do we begin ?? There are a number of components in a computer; all play their part, some more important than others, but all essential in making the machine perform. In a way I suppose it’s like a www.yourlocaltimes.co.uk

Introduction car, you can quite happily drive it from A to B if your windscreen wipers packed up (as long as it ain’t raining of course), but if the fuel pump died, you’re not going anywhere !! Let’s start with the shell, the case, the hard exterior that holds it all together. It would be possible to run a computer with all the component parts hanging together with bits of wire, string and duck tape, but other than the fact it would look ridiculous, it would be impractical, potentially dangerous and prone to breaking down a lot due to the unstable construction. Now this doesn’t mean that people DON’T have computers that look like this, I suppose if you’re a hobbyist, developer or computer nerd, I could maybe understand that if the machine you’re using is always in a state of flux and requires easy access to its internal workings, it would be illogical to have it permanently secured in a nice shiny new metal or plastic enclosure, but for the vast majority of us, a nice looking and practical exterior is essential. All you need to know is – will it fit my needs, literally ! The size of the case you choose will obviously have to fit in with its ultimate location so if you intend to house the PC in a predefined aperture, make sure you note down the dimensions before you head off to Computer Land. Don’t forget, you will need to allow for air flow in and out the machine so there should be adequate allowance for heat dissipation and the faster the PC, the more heat it will generate. We quite often get people in our shop commenting how warm it is (Wintertime, this can be a distinct advantage of course), but when you weigh up how many machines and monitors are running ALL DAY, is it any wonder ?? So, why would you need a “big” case you might ask, surely it would make life easier to have a PC as small as possible ?? Also, when you open up a case you will see how much space there is inside, but going back to an earlier point, don’t forget about heat dissipation – this is crucial. Of course, with a laptop, surely the cooling demands have already been taken into account by the manufacturer so we don’t NEED to worry about adequate ventilation – how wrong you are !! I’ll leave you to ponder on this until next month, have a good one. Steve Gould www.yourlocaltimes.co.uk

Fitness Studio Hello Ladies, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Karan Olsen, I have always had a strong interest in fitness attending local classes and training in gyms. I have three lively children, two are at school and one has just left college and is now self employed working within the Beauty Enhancement Industry. They all love keeping fit and active, just like their mum! I am a qualified and insured instructor for adults and children and first aid trained. I am passionate and enthusiastic about my work and continually update my knowledge attending courses to provide the latest range of exercises and methods of fitness training. About 5 years ago my circumstances changed allowing me to pursue a complete career change. I gradually started doing classes in community halls slowly progressing into local gyms and leisure centres. My classes are suitable for any ability, all exercises can be adapted to suit individual needs. I can provide advice and one to one assistance if my clients would like their own space and not a class environment. I have been running classes in Mill Street, Kidderminster now for the last 2 years and an opportunity has now risen to move units literally 6 meters behind my current position. This has provided me the opportunity to expand and include day time classes. My classes are action packed and challenging in line with individual needs with an element of humour and fun! I have three local instructors who will be running their own classes at my new studio. Hannah Yardley, Claire Jasper and Heather Perks will add extra variety to the new and exciting timetable. I also set up ‘green gym’ through Wyre Forest District Council and I’m currently running a Woodland Workout at Hurcott pool. (These classes are seasonal and weather permitting).

a monthly, weekly membership or you can pay per class, the choice is yours. The class times vary for all clients, the earliest being 6.15am and the latest finishing at 9.00pm. Well ladies, here are a few classes to choose from: Zumba, Kettlebell, Pump FX, STOTT PILATES, Skip fit, Woodland Workout, Spin, Strike (Boxing), Abs, LBT, Aerobics, Step, Sculpt (Body Conditioning), Children’s Classes, Team Coaching, Ballroom Blitz, Stretch & Tone, Ladies of Leisure, Bootcamp, Running & Fitball.

For more information or to book a class, give me a call on 07717 501755. Karan Olsen Fitness Studio @ The Lock Up, 44 Mill Street, Kidderminster, DY11 6XD. You will find me at the rear of the first floor offices.

My new timetable will be launched from 1st September. The following months will provide a full variety of classes for everyone, from traditional step and aerobics to the latest Zumba. By Christmas I hope to be fully operational and ready to host an official launch in January. Offering

Rebalance

A holistic solution to a hectic lifestyle Before graduating as a nurse from Worcestershire University in 2005 I qualified as a Complementary Therapist. Having a nursing background enhances my practice as a massage therapist. It gives me an overview of any medical needs my clients may have, and peace of mind that the treatments they receive are being practised safely by a practicing health professional. I have had a long standing interest in Complementary Therapies in relation to healthcare. I worked in a clinic for many years that integrated holistic therapies with orthodox treatment. I observed firsthand the benefits of massage and relaxation on the patients’ well being. I currently enjoy working as a volunteer at a local hospice. This has furthered my understanding of tailoring treatments to individuals especially at a time of illness and stress. My treatment list includes Body Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Indian Head Massage

and La Stone (hot and cold stone) massage all in a peaceful and tranquil part of the Wyre Forest. I recently qualified in the La Stone Therapy massage; it is a wonderfully warming and relaxing treatment that lasts slightly longer than a usual body massage. I would recommend it as a very ‘special treat’ to be included in a course of body massage treatments; or it could be a perfect gift for a friend who needs some ‘time out’ to relax and unwind. Throughout 2011 I will be continuing my professional development; skills will include Advanced Sport and Remedial techniques. I use Neal’s Yard 100% certified organic base and essential oils mixed to suit the client’s individual needs. I can also incorporate the use of these oils into the La Stone Massage. I have a purpose built treatment room with ample parking in a quiet, peaceful area just outside of Bewdley towards the Wyre Forest Visitors Centre.

For your information… A recent study reported a small but significant improvement in symptoms and function after a ten week trial of massage therapy on patients with chronic low back pain. This isn’t the first trial to suggest that massage can help some people with chronic back pain. ‘Adults considering massage should probably try relaxation massage first’ say the authors. Although evidence for massage therapy is limited, it is a great step for Complementary Therapies on the whole to have such positive outcomes during a tested trial (Ann Intern Med 2011;155:1-9). Please note: Gentleman clients are very welcome through recommendation or previous clients only. Please visit my website for a price list and any other information; or please don’t hesitate to call me for a friendly no obligation chat. Is perfect skin all about wrinkles?

W

hereas many of us will happily spend a small fortune on shoes we’ll baulk at the price of skin care products which promise to keep our skin in its prime or, worse, merrily fall in to bed without so much of taking off our make up. Fast forward to our thirties and forties and we’re bemoaning burgeoning crows feet and sighing at our ashy, dull complexions. Is it a future we can avoid by spending big at the Crème de la Mer counter? Or could we even promise ourselves fabulously youthful skin by just making a few tweaks to our day to day schedule? And once we’ve hit the sag and stretch is there a way back to the bouncy, taut skin of our youth?

According to top dermatologists we’re so obsessed with wrinkles and sag that we’re ignoring the things which really make a difference to the appearance of our skin. That’s right - botox and face lifts may not be the answer after all. In fact the basics of good skin lie in colour, texture and sensitivity. Concentrate on these factors and you may be able to change your skin for the better. For good. So how do you even begin to change those factors which seem unchangeable? The key is to understanding your skin type and treating it accordingly. Many of us pick products which are totally wrong for our skin type but keep on using them on a promise of less wrinkles or a tighter

26

jawline, ignoring the fact that they are causing irritation or are making little or no difference. Pick products specific to your skin type and follow a simple routine of cleansing, toning, using an active product (AHA or beta hydroxyl acid) and adding sunscreen which is vital to the well being of your skin. Those with normal skin should avoid oil or soap based cleansers and moisturisers while oily skin types react best to water based, oil free products and combination skins may wish to use moisturisers only on their driest parts. Sensitive skins should wear at least an SPF30 year round and avoid anything fragranced, alcohol based or containing dyes. From following this strict regime morning and night your skin will look rejuvenated, lessening the impact of any developing wrinkles or pigmentation spots and helping your skin to look younger from today well in to the future. www.yourlocaltimes.co.uk

We all know the six skin types but can we be sure which we have? Here’s an easy guide: Normal: If your skin isn’t coated in grease by mid-morning or flaking your skin is probably normal. Oily: Oily skin is noticeably shiny with large pores and a tendency towards blackheads. Dry: Dull, flaky skin, especially on your cheeks is a good indication of dry skin. Combination: An oily T-zone and dry cheeks are the telltale signs of combination skin.

Shear Glamour

Mature: Mature skin is characterised by thin, delicate skin, especially around the eyes.

Goodbye Gloss From June Sarpong to Victoria Beckham since the late 1990s celebrities have rarely gone as far as the corner shop for a pint of milk and a newspaper without slapping on their lipgloss. And where celebs go the beauty pages and the public follow. So for a good ten years we’ve been stocking up on Juicy Tubes, slapping on Stila Lip Glaze and coveting DuWop’s magical Lip Venom. But all of a sudden, and not just because winter is calling, the lip has gone seriously matte again. Rule One: Think Modern If we’ve learnt one thing from gloss it’s that lips should shine. Fashion may be harking back to the 1980s but our make up shouldn’t have to thanks to ever more creative formulations. The new generation of lipsticks have a subtle shine or shimmer to them, even the most matte lip colours have a moisture to them which old school ‘sticks were devoid of. Check out MAC for lipsticks which are easily separated in to eight different ‘finishes’ from lustre to glaze. Rule Two: Bold is Best After years of glossing it may come as a shock to swipe on a slick of lippy

straight from the bullet but deep pigmentation is where it’s at. This winter bold, deep reds and plums take over from a summer of oranges and pinks so jump right in the deep end. A killer red lip may seem hard to wear but can be so flattering. Pillar box red is universally flattering try Shu Uemura’s Rouge Unlimited in RD190. Rule Three: Be Prepared What the Scouts said applies to make up artists too. Where the sheen of lip gloss was forgiving when wearing lipsticks nothing is more essential than a good foundation. Two simple ways to ensure an excellent lip are to gently brush with a dry toothbrush to remove dry flakiness and encourage blood flow and to use a great lip salve as often as needed.

Rule Four: Neat or Not? Take a close look at any recent beauty shots from and you’ll see two distinct trends - the ‘done’ lip and, of course, the ‘undone’ lip. The done lip is more carefully applied using a base of lip liner and layer upon layer of brushed on colour whereas the undone lip is more romantic, patted on to the centre of the lips for a fairy tale rosebud pout or gently smeared beyond the lipline using a finger. Which you choose should depend on the rest of your face and your outfit but, mostly, which you feel most comfortable in. Rule Five: Lips Alone It’s an old rule but a good one. When wearing a statement lip, a face needs little else. A swipe of mascara, a pat of powder and a dusting of blusher and you’re ready to go. www.yourlocaltimes.co.uk

We take pride in offering our carefully selected and personally verified treatments, you will without a doubt, see and feel the results our therapies make.

Guarantee 6” loss for £75.00

MU the Beauty Rooms have carefully researched and tested all the products that we use in the salon, so you can remain confident in the knowledge that you will be receiving fully guaranteed results. New @ MU The Beauty Rooms - Universal Contour Inch Loss Body Wrap!! We guarantee you will lose at least 6” in just 2 hours, or your money back! What could be more perfect for that special occasion? This perhaps sounds to good to be true but with an average loss of between 10-14 inches from just one treatment we are confident you will be impressed. You even get peace of mind knowing that our inch loss guarantee lasts for 30 days so you can continue to benefit long after leaving the salon.

New @ MU The Beauty Rooms - Crystal Clear Oxy & Microdermabrasion Treatments from £55.00 A string of celebrity fans, has generated significant public awareness and media coverage of the Crystal Clear. The treatment and product range has reinforced its position as ‘the celebrities’ favourite treatment! Kate Middleton is a fan had a treatment before her big day too!

How it works.... A unique blend of mineral rich clay and specialist body wrapping techniques help cleanse and detoxify your body while actively compressing the soft fatty tissues, to create instant and lasting inch loss.

Crystal Clear Oxygen Therapy As we age oxygen levels in the skin cells decrease, resulting in a loss of elasticity and the formulation of lines and wrinkles. Oxygen Therapy Replenishes lost oxygen, and the active ingredients in the serum restructure the skin from inside out, visibly plumping lines and wrinkles while firming the skin around the eyes, neck and face. Your therapist will devise a tailor made treatment plan and prescribe the correct skincare products to be used at home that will address your needs and further enhance the results of your treatment. Results are visible immediately, however a course of 5 treatments is often recommended to achieve maximum results.

Once the warm clay-soaked bandages are applied you can lie back and relax for an hour while the treatment gets to work. You could even use this time to get more out of your trip to the salon and indulge in additional treatments like a facial or a manicure. Your wrap is then removed and your therapist will amaze you with your before and after measurements.

The Gift of Hearing Our sense of hearing brings enjoyment to life, for it enables us to appreciate music, poetry and the comfort that a kind word brings. It can however also be used as a powerful healing tool, a fact that has long been appreciated by the Aborigines, who have used the didgeridoo (yidaki) in their healing practices for over 40,000 years. Sound healing comes in many forms, from the drum to a singing bowl and from the human voice to a full scale orchestra, but regardless of its type, each relies on the vibration that emanates from the particular type of sound chosen, the study of which is now known as ‘cymatics’, the Greek word for waveform.

Seaweed: the new diet must-have Seaweed has long been known as a health remedy. Devotees swear by its curative qualities if its derivatives are added to bath water and the beneficial effects it can have if used in cooking. But now scientists have discovered that it could be useful for increasing the amount of fibre in our diet. A team of researchers at Newcastle University has reported that food high in fat and calories could be made healthier by adding the seaweed extract known as alginate. Junk food junkies would be able to carry on eating naughty nibbles such as burgers and cakes so long as they were laced with the additive, making it a new weapon in the constant battle against obesity, diabetes, heart diseases and bowel cancer. They have explained that alginates have many benefits, most notably that they are odourless and tasteless

so can be added to the ingredients of fattening foods without consumers sacrificing any of their enjoyment of them. Professor Jeff Pearson, a member of the research team, said, “We believe it’s hard to change people’s habits and that the most practical solution is to improve the food they do eat. “With a burger, for example, you would simply remove some of the fat and replace it with the seaweed extract, which is an entirely natural product from a sustainable resource.” He has already made loaves of bread containing the seaweed extract and thinks this is one of the best ways to reach people, because it is a staple of our diets. “Adding the seaweed extract could quadruple the amount of fibre in white bread,” he said. The Japanese eat lots of seaweed for its concentrated mineral content. As

well as being an excellent source of iodine, seaweed contains calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc. Copper and iron are good for healthy blood while magnesium assists in the proper functioning of muscles and nerves. Calcium is needed for healthy bones and potassium for the maintenance of body cells and balance of fluids. Zinc helps build up the body’s immune system. Traditionally, seaweed has been used to treat a wide variety of ailments including constipation, colds, arthritis and rheumatism. High in sodium, it is not recommended for those on a low sodium diet. The Japanese also believe seaweed is good for hair and helps to prevent throat cancer. It is used to enhance the flavour of salads, soups and savoury dishes. In fact, seaweed is eaten in 25 per cent of food in the Japanese diet.

Claire’s is an international fashion forward retailer with a network of over 3,000 stores across Europe, North America and Japan. A fashion authority in a fun environment, offering a compelling, focused assortment of the latest trends accessories, costume jewellery, cosmetics to kids, tweens, teens and young women. Claire’s is the kingdom of all girls and young women, who love fancy and coquetry, for a fashion attitude at attractive prices ! The story begins in 1996 when we purchased Bow Bangles and their 50 UK stores. Three years later and we’d opened all of the stores you see today, and more. At our peak, we were opening an average of one store every four days. The growth continued. We moved into mainland Europe in a big way, initially by buying Bijoux One in Switzerland, Austria and Germany, and Cleopatre in France. We then rebranded and opened these as Claire’s stores. But by 2005, we were ready to open our own stores and build up our presence in Spain, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands. So that’s exactly what we did.

The accolade marks an amazing 12 months for the Bewdley based company. Owner Kimberley Bennett, 25, who gave up her full time job as a forensic analyst just prior to the 2010 event, has seen orders for her cupcakes and occasion cakes flood in, and demand for her Cupcake Decorating Workshops, where she shares some of the secrets to her success with other cake lovers, soar. This year’s entry, called Elvis: All Shook UP, has been selected in the Best Decorated category, where judges will be looking for the WOW factor that makes customer want to buy. Kimmy’s trademark mix of American indulgent flavours and British elegant styling is evident in this cupcake design that takes inspiration from Elvis’ favourite sandwich; banana and peanut butter. Kim, who bakes all her creations from her Worcestershire home, said “I’m thrilled to be in the finals for a second year, it’s such an honour to be seen as one of the best cupcake bakers in the UK. Baking is a real passion, and the judges are some of my baking idols so for the chance to show them my work is really exciting!”

Whitlenge diary September by Fran Southall September the 21st is the Autumn equinox, the time of equal day and equal night, it’s almost as if time holds its breath before letting it out into the coming depths of the year. A time of harvest and traditionally much work, storing apples in darkened rooms, making jams and jellies, freezing the bean glut and the last ditch attempt of green tomato chutney. Prepare for winter colds by making elderberry and blackberry cordials and syrups. An easy pudding is to stew elderberries and blackberries with water and sugar to taste, pass through a sieve, and add to double cream, wiz in a blender and serve - goodness in a bowl. The garden always looks like it needs a haircut at this time of year, a bit wild and woolly! Cut back all the spent herbaceous and herbs. Cut roses back hard and you may get another winter flowering. Stand back and cast a critical eye, autumn is the perfect planting time as the weather is still warm enough for shrubs and trees to get safely settled in before winter. Where do you need structure? Where do you need

evergreens amongst the deciduous shrubs for winter colour? What about scent and winter flowers? There are many choices to be made to enhance the garden and make it just as interesting through the winter as in any other season. Planting bulbs now is something you will be so glad you did when they peep through the snow or show their flowers on dark winter days. Plant as many as you can. It might be a good idea to put a net over ponds now, if they are not too big, this just makes life that bit easier as the leaves begin to fall. We look forward to a warm and colourful autumn but take a breath while time stands still at the equinox, to give thanks for the harvest and enjoy the fruits of you and yours.

Even in Shakespeare’s time English summers were tricky “Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summers lease hath all too short a date” so lets be ready when and if it arrives to enjoy every minute. 48

Letter from one of our competition readers

Dear Your Local Times, I would like to say what a wonderful time myself and my friend Janet Richardson had at the Battle Proms on Saturday the 20th August at Ragley Hall. Janet won two tickets in a competition which was advertised in your 1940’s newspaper in July. Everything at the show was fantastic, the Napoleonic Cavalry and cannons were great, also the music and fireworks. But the most heart warming event was when the spitfire was flown in an amazing display by the widow of the owner of the plane who never got to fly it after 2 years working to rebuild it due to an accident. Undeterred, she took flying lessons, became a pilot and in his honour now flies this great aeroplane at many events around the country. It was the best day had by both of us in a very long time, needless to say we are going again next year. We would also like to say how much we enjoyed reading the 1940’s newspaper and also Your Local Times Magazines. Thank you.

Local Speaking You Want Me To Do What?! Many people are nervous, even terrified of having to speak in public. Before even standing in front of the audience they may experience a racing heart, sweating, feeling light-headed, shaking, dry mouth and various other symptoms. If you feel like this, rest assured that you are not alone. Surveys have shown that public speaking is listed high in the stress hierarchy. So why is this? Well, let’s face it, it’s not something that most of us learn how to do

Bewdley Gallery

Trevor Price established Bewdley Gallery in 1980 and has a range of original paintings, limited and open edition prints all at competitive prices. The Gallery also has a picture framing service with hundreds of designs to choose from and with 25 years of experience. All work carries a lifetime guarantee.

let alone practise it as we grow up. Indeed, as children we are often told to be quiet, not to show off. When we get to school we are generally required to sit quietly and only speak if asked. On top of that we may have had an embarrassing moment, often at school. “Anyone know the answer to …?” “Yes sir, me sir!” “Well, perhaps you’d like to come to the front and explain to the class.” Oh. Reluctantly we walk to the front, by which time our mind has gone blank. The information that we were so confident about has disappeared from our consciousness and we give a passable imitation of a goldfish as we open and close our mouth but no words come out. The class titter. We shuffle back to our seat and try to become invisible. www.yourlocaltimes.co.uk

What can be done to minimise our nervousness? Well, unlike at school, the audience actually wants us to succeed. Why wouldn’t they? They are just grateful it’s not them up there. They are on your side! Remember that. You will often spot someone smiling at you or nodding in agreement. But even if they appear to be frowning, don’t be put off, they are probably concentrating hard on what you are saying. Of course, if you can chat to a few people in the audience before your presentation you’ll have some friends from the outset. Take a couple of deep breaths before you start to speak. Don’t speak too quickly and pause often. That will give the audience time to absorb what you have said and you’ll have time to breathe. It is a good idea to have a glass of water handy to sip before you start or if you should ‘dry up’ during your speech. Don’t worry about pausing to take a sip. You don’t need to apologise. It’ll give the audience time to shuffle in their seats, so they are comfortable for when you restart. If you know well in advance that you are required to speak or present, prepare. Decide what you are going to say, make a few brief notes and then practise. Go through your presentation speaking it out loud. And then do it again. And again, until you are familiar with it. Do not have a full script and do not try to memorise it. Just key notes and lots of practise will help you to feel in control when you do it for real. Chase is on to the Hare and Hounds at Shenstone

Licensees Nigel and Sally Burchill certainly seem to subscribe to the philosophy that it pays to advertise. Let’s say it is very well signposted, with A-boards dotted along the Worcester Road proclaiming the merits of the home-made fish and chips, which are available to take out, the special offers and the live entertainment. The Hare and Hounds is about a five mile drive from the centre of Kidderminster and is situated in the beautiful countryside of Worcestershire with views of the famous Malvern Hills. The pub has a generous car park and also a large beer garden behind the pub that is perfect for all the family to enjoy. They won pub of the year in 2010 on food and drinks through wyvern fm and customers voted for them 4954 times. With their strong team of staff, they are working very hard to maintain and uphold the brilliant reputation of excellent fresh home cooked food, proper homemade chips, superb service and quality beverages, not forgetting the little extras inside and outside the pub. Come and enjoy an evening in their cosy snug which is perfect for quiet couples or large family gatherings, or a table in the busier bar area. Whatever you choose I’m sure you will enjoy the mouth watering meals they have on

offer. And if you enjoy live bands and solo artists too, then the Hare and Hounds is definitely the place to be! Sally and Nigel now advertise in our magazine, so people from far and wide will get to know how great the food at their pub really is. David from Carshalton in Surrey called in during a visit in December last year, he found it offered great food, great beer, customer service second to none, a real lovely atmosphere with a toasty open fire to warm your toes by. Have a look at their website for a full round up of coming events. www.hareandhoundsshenstone.com The Hare and Hounds, Worcester Road, Shenstone, Nr Kidderminster, Worcestershire DY10 4BU 01562 777380.

As Thomas Jefferson says…. “The man who stops advertising to save money is like the man who stops the clock to save time!” I may be biased, but our team who run ‘Your Local Times’ think that businesses in the surrounding region are lucky to have such a great magazine. Why.......? It has competitive advertising prices, is delivered to the residents of Bewdley, has many stockists around the region as far as Stourbridge and Bromsgrove, is full colour and is BIGGER than the usual A5 size magazine which other publishers produce.

Next month, up until Christmas, we are producing the local eating guide, where pubs, wine bars, cafes and restaurants can advertise for the party season that’s just around the corner!! What a great way to promote your business and at such a great price! So what are you waiting for? If you would like to book your space...
