Urban Design Awards 2011 Wednesday 2 February 2011 saw the Urban Design Awards take place in the prestigious and historic setting of 61 Whitehall. As the Urban Design Group’s first large-scale awards event, it was a truly momentous occasion and a real celebration of the very best urban design being carried out today. The assembled audience from around the UK and beyond saw prizes awarded in six categories and the evening was compered by the as ever witty and sagacious Rob Cowan. Lifetime Achievement Award Christopher Alexander The awards were presented by Janet Tibbalds on the behalf of the Francis Tibbalds Trust which funded the financial awards given in the Practice, Student and Journalist Award categories. Though unable to attend, the winner of the UDG’s first lifetime achievement award, Christopher Alexander, sent a note of gracious thanks for the recognition. The event was generously sponsored by Routledge Publishers and Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects, winners of the 2009 Urban Design Project Award.
