After City of Houston employees returned to work on September 5, 2017, many of you expressed an interest in supporting your fellow employees who lost their personal possessions, homes and cars to the storm. In response, the Houston Health Foundation, which has a long-standing relationship with the City, offered to establish a dedicated City of Houston (COH) Employee Assistance fund to make it easy for you to contribute to your coworkers who have suffered a loss. City of Houston employees were among the first to respond to the devastation and humanitarian crisis Hurricane Harvey left in its wake. Yet we know that many City employees themselves suffered personal losses. Your contributions to this fund will be restricted solely for support of COH employees. It is through our collective generosity that we can assist our fellow employees. Every bit helps, so thank you so much for your contribution. Your tax deductible donation will also count toward the Combined Municipal Campaign (CMC) drive in October.
Donate to the COH Employee Assistance Fund http://houstonhealthfoundation.org/donate/coh-employee-relief-fund
Questions? If you have questions about the fund, please email info@houstonhealthfoundation.org or call 832-393-3714. The application procedure and requirements to receive assistance will be announced in the coming weeks. Thank you for supporting your fellow employees. Strong Texans take care of their own!

CMC Tribute: Give A Little Peace
WHEN
you donate to the cause that gives people freedom from anxiety, from stress, trouble, or crisis, you help create peace of mind. How can donating just $2 a paycheck – a kolache or a cup of coffee – deliver something as priceless as that? Well, $2 per paycheck from each city employee would amount to about $1 million that would flow back into our community through this year’s “Give a Little Peace” Combined Municipal Campaign. When you donate to the CMC, you give peace of mind to a mother who needs emergency shelter for her family; to a young child wondering where his next meal will come from; to an eager job seeker looking for a chance. With the help of your donations, local nonprofit organizations provide life-saving programs and services to our neighbors, our family members and our friends. For those of us called to lead a life of public service, this is a lifelong commitment, not just something we accomplish during business hours. It’s donating, volunteering, mentoring and creating opportunities for the less fortunate, even if only for a short while. But even that short while has the capacity to lead to self-sustaining success. Over 400 of you give 1 percent or more of your salary to the CMC each year and I thank you for your contribution. For those of you who donate more than money, who also donate your time and talents, I encourage you to keep up the great work. Together, let’s
GIVE A LITTLE PEACE in 2018.

DONATING TO THE CMC
City of Houston employees can make a contribution through the CMC using Employee Self Service from October 2–31. Log on to ESS at portal.houstontx.gov.
Click on “Employee Self Service” at the top of the screen. Go to My CMC and click on CMC Elections. To add an agency, click on “Add Row.” Choose your agency from the drop down menu. Go to houstonCMC.org for a searchable list of agencies. Specifiy if you want your donation to be one-time or biweekly and type in the amount. Choose to have the agency contact you. Repeat for any additional agencies that you would like to give to, up to 10. If you want to delete an agency, simply highlight that row and click delete. Once you are finished with your selections, click “Calculate totals.” Your one-time, biweekly and grand total will show at the bottom of the form and indicate if you qualify for the Above and Beyond Club. If you are happy with your selections, click “Submit” at the top of the form. Click on 2018 CMC Receipt for a confirmation of your selections. You may access the 2018 CMC Election form any time during October to make changes to your elections.
