James Cleveland (featured with the Victory Chorale Ensemble), Cassetta George, and Dorothy Norwood. Not only has she magnified her God through her ability to play the piano, keyboard, and organ, but she has blessed many people through her singing ministry. As a member of the Victory Chorale Ensemble, where she still serves as the Minister of Music, she recorded her seminal lead vocal work to date, “Standing In The Need of Prayer” and “I Walk with God.” Love found her in the form of James Cavette Young and to celebrate that love they were united in holy matrimony October 11, 1969. Theirs was a love short lived as James was called to eternal rest in June 1971. After a period of mourning, Pastor Young was led to continue on with the work of the Lord. Since that time: • She founded the Philadelphia Community Choir (PCC), which led to their recording such as, “Wait Patiently” and “This is My Story” with the Savoy Recording Company • She joined the Christian Tabernacle COGIC, under the leadership of the late Bishop R. T. Jones, Sr., where she accepted her call to ministry and was fully launched into the deep • She moved to Fayetteville, NC to unite with the Deliverance Temple of Truth Holy Churches, Inc. • She served as the Minister of Music for Deliverance Temple of Truth Holy Churches, Inc. (continue on next page)

Spotlight - Person of the Month Pastor Lenora Gardenhire Young, the youngest of six children, was born August 9, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Frank and Beulah Gardenhire. As a young child, she fell in love with God, His house, and His music. This lifelong love affair with God showcased the many talents and gifts that He bestowed upon her. At the age of three, she began her musical career with the Christian Echoes, a choir affiliated with the Mount Enon Baptist Church, which was started by her mother. Her singing introduction to music led her to her next passion…the piano. Under the tutelage of Mrs. Rodonia Lecan, she began her musical education with dedicated study of piano for four years. Her musical abilities grew exponentially. Not long after she mastered playing the piano, God increased her musical talent by enabling her to master playing the organ without professional training. Pastor Young’s musical ministry has opened many doors for her to share her talents. Since that time, she has played for many churches and a vast number of ministers. Some of the churches on her roster include, but is not limited to: Mount Sinai Fire Baptize Holiness Church (Philadelphia, PA.); People’s Baptist Church (Elmwood location); The Met (Philadelphia, PA); Union Baptist Temple (Bridgeton, NJ); Miracle Temple (Philadelphia, PA); Rome Emmanuel Baptist Church (Philadelphia, PA); Second Pilgrim Baptist Church (Philadelphia, PA); Cornerstone Baptist Church (Philadelphia, PA); Our Mother of Sorrow Catholic Church (Philadelphia, PA.); Emmanuel Methodist Church (Philadelphia, PA) Harold O. Davis Memorial Baptist Church (Philadelphia, PA); Christian Tabernacle COGIC (Philadelphia, PA); and Deliverance Temple of Truth Holy Church, Inc. (Fayetteville, NC). She has also accompanied renowned ministers such as Rev. R. W. Schambach and Rev. F. D. Eikrenkotter (better known as Rev. Ike). In addition, her gifts have indeed made room for her to play for many outstanding Gospel recording artists such as, Edna Gallman Cook, Reverend

She accepted the call to the pastorate; her first assignment was True Vine Temple of Deliverance in Dillon, SC She opened the IRMC Gospel Music Learning Center and served as its director and instructor; six months later she organized the InterDenominational Revival Mass Choir She has been a radio personality for Gospel Highway Eleven (Philadelphia, PA) and for WIMG (Trenton, NJ) Currently the founding pastor of True Vine Restoration and Deliverance Worship Center This anointed woman of God loves the Lord with all heart, mind, and soul. As she counts her blessings, she knows that God is on her side as He has allowed His chosen vessel to accomplish many things. Pastor Young’s greatest desires are to be in the perfect will of God through introducing Christ to those that do not know Him as their personal Savior and seeing God’s face in perfect piece.

that Isaiah and Jeremiah were engaged in Lamentation for Ezekiel and Daniel their friend. By that time, Amos and Obadiah were not around. Three days later, Hosea, Joel and Jonah travelled in the same ship with Micah and Nahum to Jerusalem. More also, Habakkuk visited Zephaniah who introduced him to Haggai a friend of Zechariah whose cousin is Malachi. Immediately after the old tradition, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John got involved in Acts with the Romans who were behaving like the Corinthians, who were also always at loggerhead with the Galatians. At that time too, the Ephesians realizing that the Philippians were close to the Colossians, suggested to the Thessalonians that they should first of all see Timothy who had gone to the house of Titus to teach Philemon his younger brother how to read and write Hebrew. On hearing, James asked Peter to explain to him how the three Johns have disclosed to Jude the Revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

HOW TO STAY YOUNG 1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them' 2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. 3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's name is Alzheimer's. 4. Enjoy the simple things. 5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. 6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive. 7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, and hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help. 9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the Guilt is. E.g.: in Past!

BIBLE JOURNEY

Our journey began at Genesis through Exodus. On the way, we saw Leviticus recording the Numbers of people at Deuteronomy, while Joshua was waiting at the beautiful gate for Judges to see Ruth calling loudly "Samuel, Samuel". At a stage, the first and Second Kings of Chronicles were coming to visit Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther for the misfortune of Job, their brother. Then they noticed that Mr. Psalms was teaching his children Proverbs concerning Ecclesiastes and Songs of Solomon. This coincided with the period

Dealing with Impossible People Submitted by: Serena Blanco http://www.wikihow.com/Deal-WithImpossible-People Jack Herrick, James King, Amit_2506, Krystle C.

Most people with personality disorders have what is sometimes referred to as "disorders of the self," because they often don’t believe that there is anything wrong with them. They think, “This is me,” or “This is the way I have always been,” and self-preservation makes them want to stay that way. Personality disordered people are the ones who usually come to mind when we think of the term, “toxic person.” Here are some insights and steps for dealing with these highly difficult - even, impossible - people. Note: These don't apply to all personality disorders. Recognize that impossible people exist; you will eventually encounter them. There isn't a thing you can do about it. The first step is all about facing reality: If you think you might be dealing with an impossible person, you're probably right. When in doubt, proceed as instructed below. The headaches you save will be your own.Do not call them out because it will frustrate them. They could become more difficult, but just stand your ground and be confident.Be aware that some people simply aren't compatible. Sometimes, a person who gets along with everybody else quite well is an impossible person for you personally. Most relationships between people contain many shades of gray, but some people simply mix as well as oil and water. It is common to hear your impossible person proclaim that "Everyone else likes me." This is an attempt to shift the blame to you, so don't buy it. It doesn't matter how this person interacts with others. The fact is, the way the two of you interact together is terrible. Remember that blame never changes the facts. (Continued on page 11)

achieve their goals. Getting prepared for the path that has been chosen, there must be or should I say it should be taken into consideration what is about to take place. In our walk with God, we have been chosen and given assignments that will require more than others. Going through the spiritual boot camp, at times seem to be a never ending experience and an experience that will never be forgotten. New experiences, new orders, walking on un-chartered territory, sometimes wondering if you’ve made the right decision. Let us not forget, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them out of them all.” I want to encourage you today by letting you know, “After that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.” The greater the fight, the greater the blessing. The greater the battle, the greater the anointing. “AFTER THIS, COME THE GREATER.” Keep Looking Up, For God Is Always Looking Your Way.

“After This Comes, the Greater” Written by: Pastor Lenora G. Young I Peter 5:10 (b) “After that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.” The bible relates to us this message, “From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required” It is saying to those who have been set aside for special tasks, whether in our natural walk or our spiritual walk. We have been placed in this life for a designated purpose. In the army, men and women who have been considered for special assignments are trained to become specialist in their area of expertise. Those who have chosen occupations which require much study and training, such as doctors, lawyers, physiologist, and other areas it is an understood fact, that the path that is set before them will be tedious and will cause them to have to push pass themselves in order to

Gospel Legends honored at Calvary Baptist Church in "Reflections"! Written by: Carolyn Sims Nesmith On Saturday, February 19, 2011, the Calvary Baptist Church Drama Ministry pulled out all of the stops as they presented the Freedom Choir of Philadelphia in an original musical, "Reflections". The sanctuary filled early and the overflow in the fellowship hall reached capacity. This musical, written by Carolyn Sims-Nesmith and Dorothy E. Sims, traces the roots of gospel music, and was back by popular demand.

Hawkins’s "Oh Happy Day" to Hezekiah Walker's "Souled Out"!

An extra-added feature for this year's celebration was honoring living gospel legends, and people who made great contributions to the African American community. The special honoree was "Lady" Esther Ford (one of the original Ward Singers). Other honorees for the evening were: Thomasina Johnson James; Dr. Verolga Nix; Reverend Johnnie Thompson; Dr. Grayce Zimmitt; Audrey JohnsonThornton; Reverend Joe Williams; and Lee B. Tolbert. This group was treated to a Red Carpet Event prior to the performance. "I will never forget how we were received,” stated one of the honorees.

After the choir’s final song, "Lady" Esther Ford was introduced. Behind her, the staff positioned Lois Snead, Julia Mae Price Williams of the Caravans, Elder Harriett Noakes, and Thomasina Johnson James with microphones. Maestro Barry Currington seated himself at the organ. Before long "Lady" Esther Ford belted out "Surely God is Able", and the background just carried us to another level. The group moved on to the next song, "Packing Up". Julia Mae Price Williams began with a strong, steady tone, "When peace like a river..."; and each member of the group sang their interpretation of "It is well...". The song changed to an up tempo and Reverend Johnnie Thompson joined them. We had a praise party! At the close of the program, a member of the audience used one word "priceless!”

The honorees were escorted to the sanctuary and heard a pre-programmed CD that covered 1950's 1960's gospel. The audience witnessed breathtaking dance, moving drama and spirit-filled music as the story unfolded. There were lively reenactments of Mahalia Jackson, Reverend James Cleveland, the Mighty Clouds of Joy and Clara Ward and the Ward Singers. The Freedom Choir of Philadelphia filled the room with music from Edwin

The day ended with a full-course Banquet in the ornately decorated Fellowship Hall. We thank God for the opportunity to honor those whose shoulders we stand on. A day to remember!

energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Cups of Coffee.

'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Coffee represented. The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. 0A

The Coffee just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Cups of Coffee with a friend!!

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous 'yes.'

Open Wounds “Overcoming the mistakes of your past” Written by: Minister Donald E. Graham, Jr.

The apostle Paul wrote very eloquently in Romans 7:15-24 about the struggle we men have in our flesh. He recounts the times where he desired to do good but was inclined to do bad things at the same time. He culminated his point by agonizing in verse 24: “O Wretched Man That I am!” I can sympathize with the apostle as I recognize that we men have suffered a lot of emotional pain in our lives. Maybe your pain came from the people you least expected it to, your family members, a trusted friend, your spouse or like me, you have suffered from a series of selfinflicted wounds. How can you put it all behind you and move on positively in this journey we call life? It may take you a long time to work through your pain especially if you have suffered severe trauma. A professional counselor may be your first point of reference. You may try to work through the emotions yourself by reading personal development books or by surrounding yourself with positive, up-

The professor then produced two Cups of Coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. 'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else---the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your20time and

Overcoming Mistakes of your Past (Continued from page 9) building role models. You might even try to find help through groups that encourage healing and those who have faced the challenges of mental pain and got through it positively and felt able to channel their emotions to focus on the positive. All of the aforementioned approaches will no doubt offer insight into dealing with your particular issue, but ultimately, the answer you are looking for will only be revealed once you submit yourself totally to the Lord Jesus Christ. I can identify with so many men who have lived bound to the mistakes of their past, which causes them to struggle from day to day. My friend, God is able to take your personal experiences, pain & sufferings, triumphs & tragedies and use them as the catalyst that elevates you to the next level in your life. As you embark upon this journey I pray that you will come to realize that in spite of what you’ve been through, in spite of your present circumstances, your skin color or economic condition, you can overcome the mistakes of your past and live the victorious life that God has called you to live through His son Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter if you have suffered through being molested, abandoned by your father (or mother), drug/alcohol abuse, sexual addiction, divorce, heartache & heartbreak, depression or low self-esteem. No matter what your story is I encourage you to know that God has you covered and you are indeed ‘more than a conqueror’. I declare even now that THERE IS A KING IN YOU! No matter what you are going through, just know that the Lord will not put more on you than you can bear. Don't waste your time on un-forgiveness and being bitter. What was done to hurt you has already been done but you are still here, still alive, still pressing forward, and for that alone...God is worthy to be praised! Let’s overcome together…

Dealing with Impossible People Understand that it's not you, it's them. This can be surprisingly difficult, considering that impossible people have complete mastery of blaming skills. If you're dealing with an impossible person, you're probably being told on a regular basis that every conceivable thing is your fault. It isn't. As the saying goes, "It takes two to tango." Chances are, the more often they blame you, the more they themselves are actually at fault. Keep in mind that this is not to be used as a way to blame them. Blaming is what impossible people do, and they do it well. Instead, you are only facing the facts, for your own sake. That being said, here's a simple way to tell: If you accept responsibility for your own faults and resolve to improve yourself, it's probably not you. Remember, impossible people "can do no wrong." Defuse them. Stay calm, and don't spit angry words at them, whatever you do don't cry - this will only stimulate them to do more of the difficult behavior. Try ignoring them. Try looking away or starting another conversation, with a totally different topic. Find something you can agree with or praise them for. Do not, under any circumstances, join them in bashing, blaming or complaining. Do not bad talk to their face or to anyone else because then you are sinking down to their level. Add something positive. Redirect by focusing on something, anything, positive in the situation or in the conversation. Whatever you do just stay calm! Realize that you cannot deal with impossible people the same way you deal with everyone else. In some ways, they need to be treated like children. Give up all hope of engaging these folks in any kind of reasonable conversation. It will never happen, at least with you. Remember what happened the last fifty times you tried to have a civilized discussion about the status of your relationship with this person. Chances are, every such attempt ended in you being blamed for everything. Decide now to quit banging your head against a brick wall. Protect your self-esteem. If you have regular dealings with someone who tries to portray you as the source of all evil, you need to take active steps to maintain a positive self-image. Remind yourself that this person's opinion is not necessarily the truth. 10

The Opinion Corner Obesity Problem in the African American Church

1. Nobody Greater VaShawn Mitchell Triumphant

I want to pose this question to the readers. Why are so many people in the black church overweight? It’s because we love eating foods that are not good for us! Fried chicken, barbeque ribs, pig’s feet, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, collard greens, cakes, pies, ice cream and sodas, all these foods plus the lack of exercise contribute to the pounds of fat that a great majority of black church folks carry around. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Blacks had 51 percent higher prevalence of obesity, and Hispanics had 21 percent higher obesity prevalence compared with whites. Many sicknesses that are plaguing our communities stem directly from our unhealthy eating habits. High blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, diabetes and other ailments are running rampant in our communities. These diseases are even cropping up in our teens and young adults. Look around your church, look around your community. How many overweigh young people do you see? In many of our black churches as soon as the benediction is given you will find part of the congregation in the All You Can Eat buffet, McDonalds, Boston Chicken and any other number of eating establishments. Between morning church services soul food dinners are served to keep the parishioner’s around for the afternoon service. When will we as a race wake up and stop slowly killing ourselves. Learning to eat right and exercise is vital to promoting health and reducing the risk for disease. Yes, we do need food and nutriments to survive. God has graciously provided us with the capacity to enjoy the foods we eat. However, we must take care of our bodies. I realize changing our eating habits and committing to an exercise regimen isn't easy, but with the help of God, it can be done. So I say to you commit yourselves to a healthy lifestyle. Ask God to help you. Eat fresh vegetables and fruits, stay away from the buffets, fried foods, and too much red meats and exercise on a daily basis. [Cofield]

Sincere’s Corner Psss...Psss…Hey you, did you know that the Lord has not given us the spirit of FEAR, but of Love, Power and a Sound Mind! So why in the world are you so bound up with fear! Oh, could it be that you are depending on things of this world instead of the things of God…hmmmm. Please remember that if you have given your life to Christ, you are a new creature, which simply means the things of the world will not sustain you…nope! We must believe what the word says about the goodness of the Lord and His provisions. You have the right to God’s Love and God’s Power which in-turn will give you a Sound Mind. Now get off the side of that bed or the edge of that couch and go be the best “YOU” that you can be and be that without fear! God Bless…Sincere Vessel (The Comedienne) SENIOR CITIZEN JOKE A little silver-haired lady calls her neighbor and says, "Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get started." Her neighbor asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?" The little silver haired lady says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster." Her neighbor decides to go over and help with the puzzle. She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table. He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, "First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster." He takes her hand and says, "Secondly, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then," he said with a deep sigh let’s put all the Corn Flakes back in the box."
