THE “COLD HARD TRUTH”

BREATHABILITY: A lot goes into staying warm in the field, and breathability is hyper-critical. Don’t be fooled by claims that laminated products can “breathe”, and if you believe otherwise, put a laminated shell over your sleeping bag at zero degrees some night and see how that goes. Laminated products cannot breathe to the level you need them to in order to keep you warm. Code of Silence’s technologies breathe substantially better than laminated products, and effectively stop all wind velocities while trapping in body heat.

USING AIR TO INSULATE: A key factor in maintaining warmth is obviously insulation. Insulation describes all technologies and products used to conserve and leverage body heat, but more importantly, the AIR incorporated in the product design. Air is nature’s best insulator, and our technologies and designs leverage this simple and proven principle to  maximize thermal efficiency while reducing garment bulk.

The benefits of “layering” are well established and we couldn’t be more aligned with the power of “multiple” layers to provide optimum thermal performance. We employ this same exact time proven principle into the science behind our garment designs. While the “fiber” technology in any given portion of a garment design is critical, the “air layers” between internal components are more than relentlessly powerful. For example, when we define our Coldfjall Series as having “5 unique internal layers” inside the design, we consider the 4 air layers between these 5 layers as important as the 5 layers themselves. Technologies are critical, but the “air layers” between these technology layers takes thermal efficiency to another level.

This unique wool-based high “pile” fabric is extremely quiet, exceptionally warm and presents a natural presence and appearance in nature. We utilize a unique jacquard knitting technique where colors are integrated within the fabrics creating an extremely natural and reduced light reflectance for best concealment.

FLEECE-WOOL:

This proprietary fabric is a close cousin to our Berber-Wool™, and took years for us to perfect. Similarly designed with a unique wool-based fabric, but engineered to be much “flatter” on the surface for reduced friction and superior silence. The combination of the jacquard knitting technique and the flatter face allows our Fleece-Wool™ to still appear natural while reducing friction and minimizing retention of burrs.

We feel we nailed it. This is a very technical jacket but the frills were left behind as we feel that more often than not - “less is more”.
