May is Electrical Safety Month, but at Cobb EMC, safety is something we focus on every day. Electricity keeps our homes and workplaces running, yet it must be treated with respect. Many electrical accidents are prevent‑ able, and simple awareness makes a big difference. To help keep our community safe, we provide hands‑on safety programs at schools and local events throughout the year. These sessions show what to do around downed power lines, explain why you should never approach pad‑mounted transformers and highlight other common electrical hazards. We also maintain a strong internal safety culture, which includes: • Regular inspections and upgrades to thousands of miles of line in our service area • Crew visits that reinforce safe work practices and proper equipment use • Safety audits and a safety ambassador program that trains employees daily and promotes safe workplaces Here are a few quick safety reminders: • Replace damaged cords. Frayed or cut wires can spark fires. • Avoid overloaded circuits. Too many devices on one circuit can exceed safe limits. • Label your breakers. Clear labels make emergencies easier to navigate. • Use extension cords properly. Never connect multiple cords together, and avoid using them permanently. • Teach kids about outdoor safety. Make sure they know to stay far away from overhead lines and electrical equipment. • Protect lineworkers.
