SUMMER ENERGY SAVINGS TIPS

When summer heats up, our electric bills tend to climb due to air conditioners working overtime, driving up home energy consumption. With temperatures expected to rise in the coming months, we want to ensure you know about ways you can conserve energy to help lower your bill. cobbemc.com/Save
• Raise your thermostat a few degrees. The smaller the difference between the indoor and outdoor temp, the more you’ll save.
• Lower your water heater temperature to 120 degrees to reduce standby heat loss.
• Replace air filters to keep your home cooling system healthy and efficient.
• Use ceiling fans to make rooms feel cooler, and turn them off when you leave the room.
• Install window coverings like blinds or light-blocking curtains to prevent indoor heat gain during the day.
• Fire up the grill to reduce excess heat indoors.

RENTING? HERE ARE SOME TIPS YOU CAN USE TO SAVE:
• Replace standard bulbs with certified LED light bulbs for one of the easiest ways to save. Replacing just 5 bulbs can save nearly $45 a year!
• Close shades during the day to keep your home cooler in the summer.
• Alert your landlord about any leaky faucets as soon as possible. One drip per second wastes 1,661 gallons of water per year.
• Unplug electrical devices when not in use. Some devices draw power even when they’re powered off!
• A one-degree change in your cooling setpoint can affect energy use by 3-5%.
