Peak conservation hours are determined by the times of day when energy is in highest demand. This usually occurs on weekdays in a five-hour window from June through September between 2-7 p.m. On specified days when peak usage heightens—peak notification days—we’ll ask you to conserve energy to lower your peaking service charge. Your peaking service charge is determined by the highest energy need that you demand during Cobb EMC’s peak conservation hours. That’s why it’s important to conserve energy during the peak conservation hours. Take a look at three scenarios* using the same amount of electricity—1000 kWh:
Used minimal appliances and set a Peak Service of 3 kWh/hour 3 x $0.00 = $0.00
Used a few appliances and set a Peak Service of 5 kWh/hour 3 x $0.00 = $0.00 2 x $5.55 = $11.10
Used many appliances and set a Peak Service of 9 kWh/hour
3 x $0.00 = $0.00 6 x $5.55 = $33.30
Peak Service Charge Service Charge Energy Charge 1000 kWh @ .06657
$0.00 $28.00 $66.57
Peak Service Charge Service Charge Energy Charge 1000 kWh @ .06657
$11.10 $28.00 $66.57

Notice that only the peak service charge changes the total of each scenario. Here is how the peak service charge is calculated: First 3 kWh/hour billed at $0.00 Over 3 kWh/hour billed at $5.55 *The above scenario is an example and is for informational purposes only. For simplicity, the scenarios above do not include taxes and/or additional charges specific to the member.
