FitKids American Summer Camp – Making Fitness FUN! Fit Kids America strives to fight childhood obesity by inspiring kids at a young age to develop the love of fitness. By incorporating movement at a young age, chances are kids will stay active in to adulthood. Fit Kids is featuring a vast array of awe-inspiring Summer Camps to keep our community children fit while having fun doing it! Fit Kids America is a non-profit organization starting in 2005 by Joan Missett-Gambill and her husband Hal Gambill. They identified that physical education was being put on the back burner at many of the local schools as childhood obesity was on the rise. The goal of the organization is to bridge the fitness gap between what schools are able to provide and what kids really need. As a result, Fit Kids America has structured programs in most sports and dance and engages with over 10,000 kids per year! This summer during June and July, Fit Kids America will offer an amazing array of Summer Camps at three locations: Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary and Pacific Rim Elementary in Carlsbad and San Elijo
Elementary in San Marcos. These classes feature something for everyone by offering camps: Tennis, Golf, Multi-Sport, Dance/ Cheer Camp, Volleyball and even Adventures in Programming for those interested in learning about coding or how to make cool apps and games. All ages are welcome. TENNIS CAMP Join the fun this summer at the Junior Tennis Camp! Fit Kids American Tennis Camp is designed for grades K-5 of all abilities. Come ready to have fun and work on your game of Tennis. GOLF CAMP This camp provides young golfers with the skills that will last a life time. Games and stations are played to excite and engage golfers of all abilities opening the world of golf to students at a young age. This class will provide excitement and engage golfer student while building a foundation of fun and creativity. MULTISPORT CAMP You will never get board this summer in this class! SCHOLARSHIP FOR OBOIST Ellese Nguyen, oboist and senior at Torrey Pines High School, is the winner of Leading Note Studios’ first music scholarship. She was chosen through the Torrey Pines High School Scholarship Fund. Nguyen spent most of her senior year conducting and directing, but is looking forward to joining the orchestra at UC Berkley in the fall. COLLECTING HEARING AIDS Through the end of May, Palomar Medical Center and Pomerado Hospital are collecting used hearing aids to they can be reconditioned and given to people around the world with hearing loss. This program recycles donated hearing aids and fits more than 100,000 hearing aids annually to children and adults throughout the U.S. and in more than 100 countries worldwide.
