ENCINITAS — Encinitas 101 MainStreet’s Wellness Week returns for a sixth time starting Saturday. The weeklong event, held Jan. 23 through Jan. 30, connects people to dozens of organizations and service providers aimed at helping people RANCHO learn about and expeSFNEWS rience ways to improve their physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Wellness Week kicks off Jan. 23 with a Wellness Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Encinitas Library. There will be dozens of exhibitors and presenters offering free product demonstrations and samples — from massages to acupuncture treatments — free health screenings, free mini-treatments and educational workshops, as well as food vendors, live music and a variety of kids’ activities. The library branch will serve as the hub of the week’s activities and has all ages covered, from infant development classes to Silver Age Yoga. Medical marijuana delivery, cultivation banned in Del Mar, Solana Beach By Bianca Kaplanek

REGION — The delivery, cultivation and distribution of medical marijuana will soon be prohibited in Solana Beach and at least temporarily in Del Mar. In response to recent state legislation, the Solana Beach City Council, at its Jan. 13 meeting, unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance that bans all three activities. In September the California Legislature passed a series of bills that together establish the first statewide regulatory system for medical cannabis businesses. Cities have a few options to address the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act, as it is known. They can adopt their own

ordinances to either regulate or prohibit cultivation and delivery or take no action. “If a jurisdiction does not implement regulations or specific prohibitions in their municipal code the state will provide regulation for them,” Solana Beach City Manager Greg Wade said. A drafting error in the new law stated that cities have until March 1 to take action on cultivation and Jan.
