Educational Opportunities Grauer School opens permanent campus building The Grauer School opened its doors for the 25th year in a row this fall. This year marks not only the significance of a school that is the San Diego region’s emergent model of education, but the grand opening of a permanent campus building. With a design intention to create an intimacy that embraces the school’s topographical setting, the campus integrates open space and flowing water elements along with the highly innovative classrooms featuring the newest technology. All of this leads into a hilly, green quad where students began gathering naturally the first day of school. In keeping with a goal

of being an emergent leader in small school education, enrollment remains capped at 150 students, but the $4 million dollar new construction project more than doubled the classroom space. “Our mission has always been to create a permanent space for safety and imagination in thought and action, said Head of School, Stuart Grauer. Diego Espinosa, Chair of the Grauer Board of Trustees said, “This building is the physical embodiment of high performance small school’s education. We’re advancing an education model that I feel certain will be sought after by schools worldwide.

The Grauer School is vocal about not being beholden to test scores or college placement stats, yet it exceeds regional and national norms in these areas by a substantial margin. About The Grauer School The Grauer School, founded in 1991, is a grades 7-12 private, college preparatory school located in Encinitas, California. The school is accredited by WASC and serves as a successful educational model for hundreds of private schools around the world. Cub Scouts become part of ‘community team’ CARLSBAD — A group of local Cub Scout Tigers (first graders) and their families attended the San Diego County Animal Services shelter on Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad on Nov. 15 as part of their Team Tiger requirements which asks Cubs to help our “Community Team. The Department of Animal Services’ vision is to promote the humane and responsible care of companion animals, reducing the euthanasia of sheltered animals, and responding to the needs of the community. Local Cubs arrived with recommended donations including peanut butter, chicken broth, canned chicken, towels, blankets, cat toys, tennis balls, slip leashes and ceramic food dishes. Manny Salazar who works for the department gave a caring and thorough tour of the service, engaging and educating the children and families. The group were able to see all the animals that are currently up for adoption including dogs, cats, rabbits, a turtle, two pigs and even a horse.

My heart went out when I heard that a new dog in the shelter can chew through a whole blanket in the first night, as it adjusts to its new surroundings. The San Diego County

Department of Animal Services has one of the highest adoption and claim rates for animals entering their facilities as any municipal animal shelter in the country. They have a “Getting to Zero Initiative with our other partners in San Diego to reach a goal that no healthy or treatable animals are euthanized.
