Osuna Committe has vacant seat to fill By Christina Macone-Greene
RANCHO SANTA FE — At the start of the New Year, the Osuna Committee is offering a Covenant member the opportunity to serve their community. Currently, the committee has a vacant seat. Over time, this committee has provided continuity of preservation, direction and leadership. According to Jerry Yahr, who is the Osuna Committee Chair and Rancho Santa Fe Association board member, the Osuna Ranch is a 27-acre property upon which sits a historic adobe built in the 1830s and
also houses an equestrian facility. The property is owned by the RSF Association and Osuna is considered to be one of the oldest adobe residences in California, he said. “The Osuna Committee is charged with preserving the Osuna Ranch, guiding adobe restoration efforts and promoting use of the site to the community,” Yahr said. “The committee is an ideal one for residents who have an interest in and appreciation for the history of the community and for
those who would like to see residents enjoy this unique historic resource.” In terms of time commitment, committee members meet at 9:15 a.m. the third Monday of every month. Meetings take place for roughly an hour and a half in the adobe, Yahr said. In addition to the meetings, committee members also have the option if they like to offer more of their time. According to Yahr, this includes additional support to the committee via marketing, fundraising and community service efforts.
“This committee does not require excessive time commitments as some other committees may and would be a good initial experience for those who have not served on an Association committee,” Yahr said. He added, “Serving on RSF Association Committees is a way for residents to give back to the community, share their unique talents and help shape the future of Rancho Santa Fe.” For additional information, Covenant members are invited to call the RSF Association at (858) 756-1174.
RANCHO SANTA FE — Rancho Santa Fe School District Superintendent Lindy Delaney presented detailed information to the board of trustees regarding the school gym quandary. Delaney indicated that her research and work with Debra Vaughn-Cleff, of Webb Cleff Architecture and Engineering helped ensure due diligence. To date, a facilities needs assessment has been completed as well as the study of a future facility with court variations. Delaney first presented the renderings of a two-court gym at 17,600 square feet. It would house a lobby, restrooms, storage, ticketing and concessions, wrestling, dance and changing rooms as well as an elevator and bridge connecting building 400. “After doing some work with a couple other construction companies taking down some of the cost, we feel like we would probably get the two-court done for about $16.2 million,” she said. A three-court facility, however, would cost $19,050,000. The other option is “do nothing” in terms of keeping the current gymnasium but do repairs. The building was built in
aney, repairs would be roof replacement at $243,000; existing beams repair at $320,000; refurbishing and maintaining floors at $35,000; and other repairs totaling $25,000. On hand was VaughnCleff who conveyed that any structure modifications to the existing gym could potentially generate mandated upgrades from the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). Also discussed was how the current gym had an approximated shelf life of five to 10 years if the district chose not to do any repairs. For new gym construction, Delaney wanted the board to know that private funding was an option for consideration, which would necessitate a capital campaign. “I’d like to see if we could do some research about possible private funding, and then maybe come back to the board in February,” she said. Delaney added, “We might need some special board meetings in the next two months.” The other option would be a general obligation bond. Delaney told the board she would gather more data for their upcoming meeting in February.
