Cool Neighbours For lovers of adventure and nature, Rainbow Beach is a hive of activity all year round. Located in the southern area of the Fraser Coast, Rainbow Beach features coloured sands, fishing, boating, surfing, camping and many other activities which can be enjoyed by families and backpackers alike.

Rainbow Beach activity all year round

Rainbow Beach, is a major entry point to the 41,000 hectare Cooloola Section of the Great Sandy National Park, which offers one of the great four-wheel drive excursions or great walks in Queensland. A short drive north from Rainbow is Inskip Point where there’s a ferry to take you and your car across to Fraser Island. Rainbow was originally recorded as Black Beach by the miners who extracted valuable mineral sands from the beach. According to the Kaby Dreaming, Yiningie, the spirit of the gods, often took the form of a rainbow. Yiningie was killed in a fight when he crashed into the cliffs and his spirit coloured the sands.

And…if you’re a fisherman One of Rainbow Beach’s great attractions is beach fishing with unlimited scope of nearly 100km of beach to choose from. Catching fish goes hand in hand with a great holiday and that’s where Rainbow Beach has it made. Beach fishing yields dart, whiting, flathead, bream and tailor. For the rock fishing enthusiast, there are some big catches to be had off Double Island Point such as mackerel and kingfish.
