New storm impact map released

The county of Santa Barbara has released a new Storm Impact Considerations Map identifying properties that may be at risk from debris flow or flooding this storm season. Based on the most recent watershed data, the map indicates that very few residences in the city of Carpinteria remain in the impact areas at risk for flooding or debris flow. Many of the areas in Carpinteria Valley that were identified as at risk last winter have been removed from the impact areas. The map will be utilized by local emergency managers to determine what portions of the community will be evacuated if necessary this winter. If a storm is forecasted that may cause flooding or debris flow, the impact area may be evacuated. In the event of a rapidly developing storm with little to no warning, residents living in the impact areas should have a plan to protect themselves and their family if it is not safe to evacuate. Trash collection delayed during holidays

MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON Buy any of these local brands between now and the end of the year and The Farmacy SB will donate 5% of the sale price to the Freedom Warming Centers.

With Christmas and New Year’s Day landing on Wednesday this year, E.J. Harrison & Sons will delay Thursday’s regular trash collection schedule one day to Friday in Carpinteria the weeks of Dec. 23-29 and Dec. 30-Jan. 5. For two weeks after Christmas, residents may put out twice the amount of trash at no extra charge. Trash must be in bags. E.J. Harrison will also collect extra recyclables, but customers are asked to flatten all boxes. As another special holiday feature, Harrison is making it easy for customers to recycle their Christmas trees. All they need to do is remove the ornaments, hooks, lights, tinsel, bows, nails and tree stands, then cut the trees into sections no more than 4 feet long and place them in their yard waste barrels on their scheduled pickup days. Flocked trees also can be recycled. For more information, call 805-647-1414.
