Kids learn about worm composts at the Garden Park

Jack Castelo displays a compost bin he made at the workshop for his family’s organic food waste.

Kids created worm compost bins for their families’ fruit and veggie scraps at the Carpinteria Garden Park’s worm workshop on Aug. 8, taught by Katie Sarpolis. Participants learned all about worms and how to care for their new pets, as well as what to do with all the “black gold” worm poop that will begin to fill their bins in a month’s time. “My favorite part was watching all the kids who said they would never ever touch a worm hold a handful within minutes,” Garden Coordinator Alena Steen posted on the park’s Instagram.
